The #18 seed Louisville Leopards Softball Team upended the host #8 seed Youngstown Ursuline Fighting Irish 11-3 in the DIII Northeast 5 Sectional Finals Thursday evening at YSU Softball Complex. With the victory, Louisville evens its mark at 13-13 on the season and advances to play #16 St. Vincent-St. Mary in the DIII Northeast 5 District Semifinals on Tuesday, May 19 at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

Louisville Varsity Leopards easily dispatched Ursuline Irish on Thursday at Ysu Softball Stadium, 11-3.
Louisville Varsity Leopards got on the board in the first inning after Katelynn Miller hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the first inning, Ursuline Irish went back into the lead after Ella Lewis hit a sacrifice fly, and Lila Jones singled to the right side of the infield, each scoring one run.
Louisville Varsity Leopards took the lead in the top of the second inning after Taylor Thompson singled down the right field line, and Leah Claugus hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
A double by Shae O’Neill, and a single by Anna Sirohman helped Louisville Varsity Leopards extend their early lead in the third.
Taylor Schneider earned the win for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The reliever surrendered one hit and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking none. Miller led things off in the circle for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The hurler allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out none and walking two. Emma Davies started the game for Ursuline Irish. The righty allowed 13 hits and nine runs over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking three.
Louisville Varsity Leopards tallied 17 hits in the game. Thompson, Louisville Varsity Leopards’s number eight hitter, led the team with four hits in four at-bats. O’Neill went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Kaitlin Twinem, Bailee Griffith, Addy Campbell, Sirohman, and Claugus each collected multiple hits for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Louisville Varsity Leopards turned one double play in the game.
Lewis provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Ursuline Irish with two runs batted in. Lauren O’Leary and Davies each collected two hits for Ursuline Irish.

Louisville Wins Third Straight Over Ursuline
The Lady Leopards have now defeated the Fighting Irish in three consecutive meetings, which has included outscoring Ursuline 21-3 in two road games during that stretch. Louisville is now 4-2 against the Fighting Irish all-time, which includes a 2-1 record at Youngstown in the series.
This was their first-ever meeting in the postseason. The Fighting Irish are the 35th unique opponent the Lady Leopards have challenged in the postseason all-time.

Lady Leopards Notch 50th Tournament Win
The Lady Leopards victory over Ursuline marks their 50th all-time postseason victory. Louisville is now 50-39 all-time in tournament play, which includes a 12-18 record when playing on the road at opponents’ venues.
This is the Lady Leopards first road postseason win since a 12-9 Sectional Final win at Warren Howland on May 11, 2022.
