Lady Leopards Roar Back in 4th Quarter to Take Down Ursuline 47-41 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team rallied back to defeat the host Youngstown Ursuline Fighting Irish 47-41 Saturday on the Lyden Family Court at Ursuline High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 2-5 on the season.

Tillett Scores Team-High 14 to Lead Comeback
Ella Tillet scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards comeback. Tillett also registered team-high 8 rebounds, a team-best 4 blocks, and 2 assists.
After leading 11-0 to start the game, Louisville found itself trailing by the same margin midway through the third quarter. Lilly Seaman answered on the other end with a three-pointer to trim the deficit to single digits. Mikayla Salmons and Tillett added baskets to shrink the Ursuline lead to 35-30 at the end of the third.
Makayla Tanner set the tone early on the opening possession of the fourth quarter with another three-pointer to get the Leopards to within a single bucket. The two teams exchanged free throws before Salmons recorded a steal and then added a basket via an assist from Maggie Baker to knot the game at 36-36.
The Fighting Irish would eventually go ahead 40-36 before the Tillett takeover happened. In a span of two minutes, Tillett secured three key rebounds and converted 3-of-4 free throws from the line to pull the Lady Leopards to within 41-40 with 2:04 remaining.
On the other end, Baker and Tillett forced a jump ball giving possession back to Louisville and the opportunity to take their first lead of the second half.
Baker Pours in 12 and Finishes Off Ursuline
On the opposite end, Baker’s pass inside was deflected but she hustled to secure the ball and scored in the same motion to put the Leopards in front 42-41 with 1:04 left in the contest.
The Lady Irish turned the ball over out of bounds on the other end and Baker converted both bonus free throws to increased the Louisville lead to 44-41 with 37.4 seconds remaining.
Ursuline looked to tie the game, but an errant pass found the hands of guess who? Baker secured the interception and was able to kick up court to run clock.
Salmons would split a pair of free throws with 10.9 seconds left and Tillett hit a pair of free throws with 2.5 seconds left as the Lady Leopards finished the game scoring nine unanswered.
Baker would end the afternoon with 12 points, a team-high 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Salmons was the x-factor throughout finishing with 8 points and had a pair of assists, blocks, rebounds, and steals. Tanner added 5 points to go along with a pair of assists, rebounds, and steals as well.
Other scorers for Louisville included Mabel Kiko with 3 points and 3 rebounds, Seaman with 3 points, and Kloey Rukavina with a basket and 3 boards. Carly Casey also scored 9 and both Maizy Green and Jada Jones added 6 each.
Carpenter Leads Irish with Team-High 11
Kennedy Carpenter scored in every scoring in amassing a team-high 11 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, and 2 steals. Carly Casey also scored 9 and both Maizy Green and Jada Jones added 6 each. Louisville Remains Unbeaten Against Ursuline
The Lady Leopards remain undefeated against the Fighting Irish with the victory. Louisville is now 3-0 against Ursuline, which includes a 2-0 record in games played at Youngstown in the series.
The two squads have met in each of the past three seasons, with this contest being the closest. Louisville won at Ursuline 72-42 in 2024 and earned a 64-37 senior night win over the Fighting Irish earlier this calendar year at home.
