Haren Pours in 27 as Louisville Dominates at Ursuline – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team upended the host Youngstown Ursuline Fighting Irish 72-42 Saturday Afternoon at Ursuline High School. With their third straight victory, Louisville improves to 13-4 on the season.

Haren Ties Season High with 27
Senior Brooke Haren hit 3 three-pointers and tied her season high with 27 points to lead the Lady Leopards. She was held to just a single field goal in the first quarter as Louisville took a 12-7 lead eight minutes in.
Haren went off in the second quarter scoring 16 points in the period. Haren got her own rebound and scored on a putback to kickstart a 10-0 Lady Leopard run during the quarter. Junior Chay Cline was also instrumental during the run and would finish with 5 of her 7 points in the quarter.
Louisville led 26-9 after the run before Haren hit back-to-back three-pointers to put LHS in front 32-13. The Lady Leopards would take a 34-16 lead into the half and outscore the Fighting Irish 38-26 the rest of the way to notch the 30-point victory, their largest road win of the season. Haren would add 9 more points in the second half before Louisville emptied the bench midway through the fourth quarter.
McCully Scores Season High 16
Sophomore Taylor McCully matched Haren with a team high 3 three-pointers, tallied 5 assists, and registered a season high 16 points. The Lady Leopards strung together another 10-0 run during the third quarter. McCully banked home a three-pointer after Haren hit a three right before. McCully also had a block, assist, and steal during the run. She would finish with half of her points in the third quarter alone.
Barwick Records Team Best 6 Assists
Junior Courtney Barwick was also key during the third quarter run that saw Louisville up its margin from 36-20 to 46-20. She assisted both three-pointers to start the run, caused a steal, and scored on a putback during the string. Barwick finished in double figures with 13 points, recorded a team best 6 assists, and had multiple steals.
Eight different LHS players made their mark in the scorebook altogether. Cline added 7 and sophomore Sammi Beatty hit a three-pointer in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Maggie Baker, junior Reagan Biery, and sophomore Mabel Kiko also all added a basket each in the final minutes.
Gray Reaches Double Figures to Lead Ursuline
Senior Meredith Gray scored in every quarter and finished with a team high 10 to lead Youngstown Ursuline. Sophomore Brooke Opalick also made a three-pointer and finished with 7. Freshman Kennedy Carpenter and senior Lily Scott rounded out the Fighting Irish scoring with 6 a piece.
The loss snaps Ursuline’s two-game winning streak as they drop to an even 8-8 record on the season.
This was the first ever meeting between the two schools in girls basketball. The Fighting Irish are the 79th unique opponent Louisville Girls Basketball has faced all-time in the regular season or postseason.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Marlington Dukes on Saturday, January 27. JV will begin at 1:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 2:30 PM.
