Leopards Jump on Dukes Early in 12-1 Rout – Softball
Louisville 12, Marlington 1, 6 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team run-ruled the host Marlington Dukes 12-1 in 6 innings Tuesday Evening at Marlington High School. With the win, Louisville stays unbeaten at 3-0 overall and improves to 2-0 in NBC play.
Kaycee Ollis hit a 2-run homer as part of a 5-run Leopard fourth and Ashley Zifer cleared the fence on a 3-run homer in the sixth to highlight the Louisville offense. Sarah Cantley also went 3-for-4 at the plate and Lauren Bennett batted 2-for-4 with a 2-run triple. Other highlights included a 2-run double by Shae Thomas, a pair of hits and RBI by Justina Sirohman, and an RBI by Rylee Squire.
In the circle, Cantley pitched 4 innings, gave up 1 run on 2 hits, and struck out 4 to earn the victory. Thomas pitched the final two frames in shutout fashion, giving up 3 hits, and fanning 2.
Brianna Hoopes batted 2-for-3 and accounted for the Dukes only run with a 2-out solo shot to center in the first inning. Marlington did not score again as they fell to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the NBC with the loss.
