Leopards Erupt Early, Roll Past Spartans 4-1 – Boys Soccer

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Soccer Team erupted for three first-half goals and rolled past the host Boardman Spartans 4-1 Thursday night at Spartan Stadium.
Cale Lindner, Braden Shadle, Maddox Rodriguez, and Carter Busby each found the back of the net as Louisville completed a regular-season sweep of Boardman. With the victory, the Leopards improve to 5-5-1 overall and 3-4 in All-American Conference play. Boardman falls to 2-9-2 overall and 1-6 in the AAC.

Lindner, Shadle Give Leopards Early Control
Louisville took command in the opening half behind goals from Lindner and Shadle.
Evan Swope set up Lindner for the game’s opening goal to put the Leopards in front 1-0. Louisville then doubled its advantage when Brandon Sanders assisted Shadle for the finish to make it 2-0.
The Leopards continued applying pressure and eventually earned a penalty kick. Rodriguez converted from the spot to stretch the Louisville advantage to 3-0 before halftime.
Busby Extends Lead in Second Half
Louisville added to its lead after the break when Lindner turned from scorer to facilitator.
Lindner set up Busby, who finished the opportunity to extend the Leopard advantage to 4-0.
Boardman broke through later in the second half to avoid the shutout, but the Spartans could get no closer as Louisville closed out the 4-1 road victory.
Lindner finished with a goal and an assist to lead a balanced Louisville attack that featured four different goal scorers.
Louisville Sweeps Boardman, Wins Third Straight in Series
The Leopards completed the season sweep after previously defeating the Spartans 2-1 at Louisville Leopards Stadium on September 15.
Louisville has now won three straight meetings against Boardman after dropping the first two matchups in 2004 and 2005. The Leopards earned their first victory in the series with a 2-0 tournament shutout in 2016 before taking both AAC meetings this season.
Thursday’s victory was also Louisville’s first-ever road win against Boardman. The Leopards are now 3-2 against the Spartans all-time and have outscored them 8-2 during their current three-game winning streak.

JV: Boardman 2, Louisville 0
The Louisville Leopards Boys JV Soccer Team fell to the host Boardman Spartans 2-0 Thursday night at Spartan Stadium.
Boardman scored once in each half, carrying a 1-0 advantage into halftime before adding an insurance goal after the break.
The Leopards were unable to break through offensively as the Spartans completed the shutout.
With the loss, Louisville falls to 5-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in AAC play. Boardman improves to 3-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Boys Soccer Team will next travel to take on the Howland Tigers on Tuesday, October 6. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow at 7:15 PM from Lombardo Field.
