Leopards Stay Undefeated in NBC with 4-2 Win Over Warriors

Riley Groves Louisville Leopards

FULL VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Louisville 4, West Branch 2

Gear Up with Beatty's SportsRiley Groves singled home Kyle White for the go-ahead run in the fifth and Mike Kelly added an insurance run by hitting home Groves after that during host Louisville’s 4-2 win over West Branch Tuesday evening.

Kelly went 2-for-2 on the evening and helped the Leps take the first advantage of the game by doubling home Groves in the bottom of the first.  Kelly then scored himself when Jon Crank doubled to center in the next at-bat.  2-0 Leopards.

The Warriors tied the game in the top of the fourth when Chipper Tuel drove home both Beau Taylor and Ryan Adams.  West Branch reloaded the bases before a rare play helped Louisville get out of the jam.  West Branch’s Jacob Clayton grounded to the right side of the infield, but before the ball could reach second baseman Pavin Parks it ricocheted off the Warriors’ Brenden Wells who was running to second.  Clayton was out due to offensive interference, which ended the inning and kept the score tied 2-2.

Louisville did their damage in the bottom of the fifth on Kelly & Grove’s RBI singles.  Louisville threatened to have an even bigger inning after Kelly advanced from first to third on a passed ball and Crank walked to first.  However, Crank got picked off trying to steal second and Kelly couldn’t get home in time for the run to count.

Pitching dominated the remainder of the contest as 9 out of the next 10 batters from both sides were retired.  Dillon Sterzbach shutout the Warriors during the first two innings and struck out two.  Groves pitched the remaining five innings, allowed just three hits, and didn’t allow an earned run.

The Leopards have now taken 5 out of the last 6 from the Warriors.  Louisville and West Branch will face-off again Thursday at West Branch.
