Leonard Represents Louisville Wrestling at State Meet

Jimmy Leonard Louisville Leopards Wrestling Vs. Salem Quakers 2016

Jimmy Leonard was the lone representative for the Louisville Leopards Wrestling Team at the State Tournament Meet this past weekend. He punched his ticket to Columbus by placing second in the 182-pound weight class at the DI Mentor District Tournament back on February 27.

Leonard’s bid for an individual State Title ended in the Championship Preliminaries. He lost a hard fought match to Elyria’s J.T. Brown by the count of 7-3. Brown would go on to take fourth place in the state.

Leonard battled on in the consolation bracket and picked up a victory in his next match. He defeated Cincinnati Moeller’s Sam Wyche 3-1. For those wondering, Wyche is the grandson of former Cincinnati Bengals Head Football Coach who has the same name.

Leonard would fall to Ashville Teays Valley’s Colton Carroll 7-1 in the next match. Leonard finishes the 2015-16 campaign with with an individual record of 37-9 and a team-leading 18 pins.

Leonard along with teammate Andy Graham both captured first place in the Division I Sectional Meet held at Perry High School back on February 20. Graham defeated Barberton’s Kolbie Lange 6-2 in the 106-pound Championship Match. Leonard doubled up Perry’s Zach Blackiston 8-4 to claim the 182-pound Sectional Title.

All-in-all eight different Louisville Wrestlers placed at Sectionals and the top four of each weight class advanced to Districts. The others included Frankie Falcone (195) & Chase Lautzenheiser (220) who placed 3rd, Brock Mehl (152) & Satchel Strickmaker (170) who took 4th, and Ryan Jakubiak (113) & Logan Skolosh (145) who placed 5th.

At the DI Mentor District Meet on February 27, Leonard captured second place in only falling to Kaden Russell of St. Ignatius by a count of 9-3 in the 182-pound District Title Match. Andy Graham also placed in the 106-pound weight class after edging Madison’s Jeff Brichford 1-0 in the battle for 5th.
