Lake 66, Louisville 30

Louisville ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday night at Lake High School.  The undefeated Blue Streaks burst out to a 17-2 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Lady Leopards 66-30.  Despite the loss, Brianna Libertore led the team with a double-double that included 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Blue Streaks dominated the game from start to finish opening up to a 17-2 advantage with a little less than four minutes taken off the first quarter clock.  Lake was deadly from the floor hitting 8 of 10 shots in the opening quarter and shooting 62% for the game.

Louisville remained cold the entire first half hitting just 3 of 17 shots from the field.  Mackenzie Storlie’s jumper with 3:02 left in the second quarter turned out to be the only Lady Leps field goal in the period.  Louisville ended up shooting just 24% from the floor for the game and did not make a single shot from beyond the arch.

Lake continued to take advantage of Louisville turnovers, 22 total on the evening, while also putting seemingly everything in the hoop.  They shot 4 of 7 from beyond the arch, which included 3 triples from Miranda Diesz.  Diesz led all scorers with 13 points, while Baylen Dyrlund scored 12, and Audrey Myers added 10 for the Lady Streaks.

The one positive for Louisville in the game was their foul shooting.  They hit home 10 of 13 free throws, which accounted for a third of their points.  Louisville also out-rebounded Lake 27-22 for the night.

Tuesday was not the first time a Lady Leopard team struggled at Lake.  In fact, the last time Louisville was held to 30 points or less in a game was back in 2007-08 when the Lady Leps opened their season with a 51-23 loss in Uniontown.  However, even with the loss Louisville still leads the all-time series with the Streaks (19-12 from known records).

It was a tough start to a grueling stretch of six consecutive games on the road including out of conference foes Massillon next and Perry to close the traveling on January 17th.  All this before coming home to host a massive NBC game against West Branch on January 21st.
