Baker Scores Game-High 16 to Lead Louisville
Maggie Baker hit three three-pointers and scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the first half to lead the Lady Leopards. She was also a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line as LHS finished shooting 100% from the stripe for the game (5-for-5).
Louisville jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and never trailed. Courtney Barwick scored a bucket between three-pointers by Karis Miglich and Baker helped the Lady Leopards fly out of the gate with the early advantage. The Louisville defense held Lake scoreless until Hayden Croyle hit a pair of free throws with 58.2 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
The Leopard defense did not surrender a field goal until Croyle hit a deep two from just inside the top of the arc with under five minutes left in the second quarter. Baker immediately answered back on the other end with a layup and was fouled in the process. She converted the free throw to put Louisville ahead 16-4.
Ella Tillett registered a block on the defensive end on the next Lake possession. Courtney Barwick took control of the offense up the court, drew three defenders on her way to the basket, and then had the vision to pass the ball into the left corner, where Baker drained a three-pointer. The corner three-ball gave the Lady Leopards their largest lead of the game at 19-4.
Barwick Adds 13 Points to History Chase
Barwick also scored in every quarter to finish in double figures with 13 for Louisville. Her three-pointer in the fourth quarter gave her 1,180 points for her career. Barwick enters the postseason just 23 points shy of the Lady Leopards’ all-time scoring record of 1,203 points set by Brooke Haren last year.
Louisville led 21-8 at the half and maintained their 13-point margin heading into the final stanza. The Lady Leopards extended their lead to 34-20, but the Blue Streaks answered with a 7-0 run to get as close as 34-27. Tillett ended the Lake run by hitting a pair of free throws as she finished with 4 of her 6 points in the fourth quarter. Baker later hit another pair of free throws to remove all doubt.
Croyle Leads Lake with Team-High 13
Cryole scored nine of her team-high 13 points in the second half to lead the Lady Streaks. Savanna Horning also made 9 of 10 free throws and finished with 10 of her 12 points in the second half. Both Croyle and Horning contributed a three-pointer as the only made attempts from beyond the arc for Lake all night.
Sydney Hedrick and Kaityln Josef also added a basket each to round out the Blue Streaks scoring.
Lake has now lost eight of its last nine games to close the regular season. They head into the postseason with a record of 5-17.
