Lady Leps Score 4 2nd Half Goals in Thrilling Home Opener

The Lady Leps got a thrilling  victory in the home opener at Louisville High School Wednesday evening.  Louisville rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit and then held on to defeat the GlenOak Golden Eagles 5-4.

Mackenzie Storlie scored the opening goal of the contest nearly 13 minutes into the game.  The shot went just past the arms of the outstretched Golden Eagles goalie and into the left side of the net.  However, Louisville’s celebrating would be short lived as GlenOak answered back with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Storlie banged home her second goal of the game nine minutes into the second half by taking advantage of a GlenOak defensive lapse.  The Golden Eagles would strike again five minutes later to recapture the lead 3-2.

But then the Lady Leps caught fire.  Just sixty-nine seconds after GlenOak had scored the go-ahead goal, Louisville tied the game back up on when Rachel Baughman lobbed a kick from outside of the penalty area toward the net.  The GlenOak goalie misplayed the kick and it bounced up into the net to tie the game at 3-3.

Deja Vu struck the Leps almost eleven minutes later when Tara Stevens lobbed a kick towards the net just inside the penalty box.  The ball sailed just over the outstretched goalie’s hands and bounced into the net eerily like Baughman’s had.  4-3 Lady Leps.

Louisville looked to bury GlenOak late when Storlie blasted a shot from the right side of the field.  The ball went through the goalie’s legs and found Stevens on the other end of it.  She bombarded the ball into the net for the score to make it 5-3.

GlenOak would score one more time with 4:44 left in the game, but Louisville’s defense slammed the door shut after that.  Becca Springman, who had 12 saves for the game, had 4 key saves after Louisville took a 5-3 lead.

The crowd grew restless as GlenOak penetrated into Louisville territory with seconds remaining, but Sarah Jaroszyk booted the ball into oblivion with two seconds remaining to silence the Golden Eagles final threat.

This win shows just how much the Lady Leps have improved over the past year.  Almost exactly a year ago on August 25, 2010 Louisville fell to GlenOak 6-0, today the Lady Leps left victorious.  Louisville now holds a 3-3-3 record all-time against GlenOak and this was also their first win over the Golden Eagles since 2007.

NEXT UP: The Lady Leps will next host the St. Thomas Aquinas Knights on Monday, August 29 at 5:00 PM.  The series for the battle of Louisville is tied 1-1, with Aquinas winning 5-1 last year and Louisville winning 4-0 in their inaugural season of 2003.
