Lady Leps Return Home, Take Care of Carrollton 43-33
FULL VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
Louisville 43, Carrollton 33
The Lady Leopards finally returned home after 7-game road trip and earned an ugly, yet convincing 43-33 win over the Carrollton Warriors Saturday afternoon. Clara Lemmon led the Lady Leps with 15 points, while Brianna Libertore scored 13 and Mackenzie Storlie added 8 in the victory for LHS.
Home sweet home. After fighting through adversity in the first three quarters, Louisville outscored Carrollton 13-4 in the final period to take the game from the Warriors. Lemmon scored 7 points in the fourth, which included the Leps only two field goals in the quarter. Both lay-ins were setup by Libertore who also went 4-for-4 from the line in the final stanza.
The contest reaped frustration by both squads from the field, especially in the first three quarters. The Leopards shot just 29% from the floor, but the Warriors shot an even worse 24% from the field. Louisville’s 11 turnovers didn’t help their cause, but on defense the Leps forced 15 Carrollton turnovers that more than countered their own mistakes.
A big key to the Leopards success on defense was shutting down the Warriors’ Taylor Lowdermilk. She poured in 22 points and hit 4 three-pointers in the first meeting at Carrollton. This time Lowdermilk hit 2 three-pointers in the first quarter, but Louisville didn’t allow her to score from the field after that. She was held to just 8 points for the game.
The Leopards stifling defense didn’t allow a single Carrollton player to reach double digits. The Warriors were led by Tessa Sanders 9 points on the afternoon. Also, in the first meeting Carrollton shot 7 of 14 from beyond the arch, but in this contest Louisville held them to a 3 for 18 performance from three-point land.
The Leopards had their woes as well from downtown, as they missed all 10 three-point attempts. However, they made up for that with a 15-of-21 performance from the free throw stride that proved to be the difference in the game. Carrollton out-fouled Louisville 16-10 and as a result the Warriors only could cash in on 6 of 7 free throw attempts.
This meeting with Carrollton will not be as memorable as the game earlier in the year between these two teams, but it is another corner piece to solving the NBC Championship puzzle.
