Lady Leopards Rout Alliance on the Eve of NBC Title Game

Amber Minster Louisville Vs. Alliance Girls Varsity Basketball 2-4-2012

FULL VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Louisville 63, Alliance 11

After taking a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, Louisville only allowed Alliance to score just 3 points in the remaining three periods capping off the greatest single game defensive performance in school history.  The Lady Leopards defeated the Lady Aviators 63-11 Saturday at LHS to move to 13-4 on the season.  Twelve different Louisville players scored in the contest and they were led by Brianna Libertore’s 12 points and Mackenzie Storlie’s 11 points.

Alliance shot just 12% from the floor for the game and the Leopards defense also forced 23 Aviator turnovers.  Louisville’s defense held Alliance to just 1 point in the second quarter, a single field goal in the third quarter, and completely cancelled all Aviator flights to the hoop in the final quarter.  Emily Retterrer led all Alliance scorers with 7.

On the other side of the ball the Leopards offense put up more points in the first 3:37 than Alliance would score the entire game.  The Leopards would extend their advantage to 14-0 before Alliance would get on the board with 2:40 left in the first quarter.

The Leopards crashed the offensive boards to create several extra opportunities and out-rebounded Alliance 32-15 overall for the game.  They also protected the ball and only committed 5 fouls for the entire contests.  The Lemmon sisters, Clara and Hannah, each scored 6 points in the first half to add to the leading scorers contributions.  Louisville led 34-9 at the break.

In the second half the Leopards backups started to file in and Alliance still only managed to make a single field goal to break double figures.  Mackenzie Rankin had multiple pickpockets and ended up scoring 7 points, while Amber Minster caught fire in the fourth and also added 6.

Although there was little doubt in the outcome of the winner at the start, Saturday’s game inches Louisville one step closer to their ultimate goal of an NBC Title.  Monday night they will be playing in the “Super Bowl” of NBC Girls Basketball when they host West Branch.

NOTES:

  • 11 Points is the least amount of points given up by a Lady Leopards team in school history.  It eclipsed the previous mark by 1 point when the Lady Leps won at Marlington 49-12 on December 6, 1979.  The previous best defensive effort at home came last season on January 29, 2011 when Louisville beat Alliance 66-15.
  • Louisville is 29-7 against Alliance all-time according to our known records.
  • Alliance is still winless at 0-19 and the loss extends their losing streak to 41 consecutive games with their last win dating back to February 15, 2010 when they beat Akron Springfield 66-47.
  • The 52-point margin of victory is the largest since Louisville won at Alliance 84-14 on December 20, 2010.  That game was the Leopards biggest win all-time.
  • The 52-point margin of victory is the largest at home since December 19, 1990 when the Lady Leps crushed Carrollton at LHS 73-19 (54-point margin).  The largest known margin of victory at home was also against Carrollton on January 17, 1990 when the Lady Leps pounded the Warriors 81-24.
  • This is the 10th time Louisville girls basketball has won a game by 50+ points, here is the game log of these games:
