Louisville Can’t Overcome Howland’s Strong 2nd Quarter – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Howland Tigers 59-52 Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 6-10 on the season.
Senior Paige Cole, junior Kendal Loy, and senior Sherilynn Mullett all scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Lady Leopards. Cole hit 3 three-pointers in the second half, Loy went 7 of 8 from the free throw line, and Mullett scored 9 of her points in the fourth quarter.
Tigers Take Command in 2nd Quarter
At the end of the first quarter Louisville trailed by only a single point at 13-12. The tables turned in the second quarter as the Tigers outscored the Leopards 18-4 to take a commanding 31-16 advantage at halftime.
Louisville used 3 three-pointers in the third quarter to help them outscore Howland 22-17 while cutting into the deficit. The Leopards also outscored the Tigers 14-11 in the final stanza, but it would not be enough as HHS prevailed 59-52.
Pompelia Leads Howland with Game-High 25
Junior shooting guard Alyssa Pompelia made 4 three-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points to lead Howland. Sophomore small forward Courtney Clark also scored in every quarter to finish in double digits with 15 and junior shooting guard Taylor Lawrence added 8 for the Lady Tigers.
Louisville is now 1-3 against Howland all-time, which includes a 1-2 record in games played at LHS in the series. The two teams have now played in each of the past four seasons.
