Lady Leopards Storm Out of the Gate

Jenny Can Cleaning AdLouisville took a 7-0 lead out of the gate and held that advantage to the end of the first quarter at 16-9. Howland chipped away at the Leopard lead in the second quarter, but LHS still remained ahead 30-25 at the break.

The two teams battled back-and-forth exchanging points to open the second half. Louisville continued to hold a five-point 38-33 advantage with under a minute and a half to play in the third quarter. That lead quickly evaporated as the Lady Tigers ended the period on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 38-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

Howland Pulls Away with 7-0 4th Quarter Run

The Leopards and Tigers continued to battle back-and-forth through the first few minutes of the fourth quarter. Howland took their first lead of the game when sophomore 5’11 small forward Courtney Clark pulled down an offense board and laid it back in to make it 45-44. However, Louisville responded immediately on the other end as Cole hit her fifth three-pointer of the contest on the left wing from WNBA range. 47-45 Leopards.

Howland answered back on the other end as junior shooting guard Alyssa Pompelia bullied her way into the lane and pulled back to knot the game at 47-all. With 3:14 left in the contest, Loy hit a pair of free throws from the line but the second make was waived off by a lane violation to keep the Leopard lead at 48-47.

The Lady Tigers responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Pompelia drove to the rack for a basket to take the lead back. Then junior 6’2 center Jamie DeSalvo used her height advantage underneath to add two more points to Howland’s total. The Tigers would then hit 5 of 9 free throw attempts over the course of the final 2:01 to ice the game.

DeSalvo and Pompelia Lead Tigers With 11 Each

DeSalvo and Pompelia combined for 13 of Howland’s 18 points in the fourth quarter. Both would finish with a team-high 11 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Lawrence also added 9 for HHS.

Louisville is now 1-4 against Howland all-time since their first meeting in 2017. The Lady Tigers are now 2-0 when hosting the Lady Leopards at Howland High School
