The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team doubled up the visiting GlenOak Golden Eagles 6-3 Thursday Evening at West Main Vet Clinic Field. With the victory, Louisville improves to 11-10 on the season.
Nolte Goes 4-for-4, Scores Thrice
Senior centerfielder Kaylee Nolte finished a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Leopards. Nolte scored on a pair of RBI singles by junior designated hitter Jenna Collins in the first and third innings to put LHS up 3-1.
Later in the fourth inning, Nolte doubled home freshman shortstop Matti Benson , who doubled in the previous at-bat, to put Louisville ahead 5-3. Nolte also scored the Lady Leopards sixth and final run of the contest via senior first baseman Lauren Stillwagon’s line drive single to left field.
Mayle Hits 1st Varsity Homer
Earlier in the inning, sophomore second baseman Shelby Mayle hit her first career varsity home run on a fly ball to left field. The solo shot would prove to be the deciding run in the ball game as it put Louisville in front 4-3.
Ensley Records Three Inning Save
Senior pitcher Cloie Ensley would preserve the Leopard lead the rest of the way in earning her first career varsity save. She worked 3 shutout innings, allowed just a single hit, and struck out 1. Ensley needed to face just 10 GlenOak batters in recording the final 9 outs of the contest.
Louisville sophomore starting pitcher Kendra Thomas earned her third victory of the season in the circle. After allowing a run in the opening inning, she retired the side in the second and third. Thomas would surrender 2 earned runs on 4 hits through four innings of work prior to giving way to Ensley.
Louisville Out-Hits GlenOak 12-5
The Lady Leopards out-hit the Lady Eagles 12-5 for the game. Benson, Collins, and Porter all recorded 2 hits each for Louisville.
Wires Bats 3-for-3 to Lead Golden Eagles
GlenOak was led by left fielder Grace Wires who finished 3-for-3 with an RBI double the plated first baseman Jordan Cholley in the opening frame to give the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Cholley also hit a 2-out double in the at-bat before.
GlenOak would add 2 more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Cholley reached on an error and would later score on a wild pitch. Wires followed Cholley with a single and later came home via second baseman Karlie Boron’s RBI double to left field that knotted the game at 3-3.
Louisville Vs. GlenOak Softball Series
The Lady Leopards have now won 7 straight over the Lady Eagles on the diamond. Louisville still trails the all-time series 19-21, but now holds a 10-9 mark over GlenOak in games played at home.
The Lady Leopards are now 3-3 against Federal League schools this season.
