Girls Tennis Falls in Opener at Jackson

The Louisville Leopards fell to the host Jackson Polar Bears 3-2 in the season opener Thursday. This is only the 5th loss for the Louisville program in their past 73 matches.
Gretchen Groves was dominate in #1 Singles for Louisville as she won her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 over Jackson’s Emily Thomas. Kayla Pukys also won in #3 Singles for the Leopards by a count of 7-5, 6-3 against the Polar Bears Anjali Ta.
Despite the loss, Louisville still leads the all-time series over Jackson 9-7. The Polar Bears also became the first team besides the North Canton Hoover Vikings to defeat Louisville since September 17, 2009 when they fell to Canton South 3-2. The Vikings have handed the Leopards their only team loss in each of the past four seasons.
