Brittany Flanigan pitched a complete game one-hit shutout and Chandler Rice  went 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer and 3 RBI’s to lead the Louisville Lady Leopards to a 9-0 win over the Carrollton Warriors at the Diamond of Dreams Tuesday evening.  Shelby Swigert also had an inside-the-park home run for her second straight game.

Last year, Carrollton came to town and handed Louisville their only regular season loss by a count of 7-1.  However, this year it was all Louisville.  The effort was spearheaded by Flanigan’s performance in the circle.  After a first inning walk, she retired 14 straight Warriors until her no-hitter was broken in the sixth inning.

The Lady Leopards offense pounded out 13 hits for the game and wasted no time in getting on the board during Beatty's Sports Spring Sports Logos Softballthe first two innings.  Rice singled home Emily Isla in the top of the first for the first run of the contest.  Then, Swigert singled home Amy Hoover in the second inning to make it 2-0.  Next, Flanigan helped her own cause with a bunt single that brought home Swigert.  All three players that scored reached first base via their at-bat then stole second.  Louisville  robbed second base blind as they stole it six times during the contest.

After a scoreless third, Swigert led off the fourth with a drive to right-center that found a gap and bounced all the way to the fence.  Swigert hustled and slid in safely with a triple before scoring on an overthrow.  The scorebook will read “3B”, but an inside-the-park home run is an inside-the-park home run. 4-0 Lady Leopards.

Louisville tacked on five more runs in the fifth and sixth.  Annie Woolf and Hoover both singled aboard and later scored on a Jordan Monnot double to right-center.  Then Flanigan and Isla each picked up their second hit of the contest to start the Leopard seventh.  A passed ball allowed the pinch-running Brooke Cox to score from third to make it 7-0 Louisville.

Next, Rice went yard by clearing the center field fence easily for her fourth home run of the season.  Isla came home on the play and Rice also scored to complete the 16th Louisville round-tripper of the season.

A 1-2-3 seventh inning improved Louisville to a perfect 9-0 in the NBC and 16-3 overall.  Louisville is now 31-17 all-time against Carrollton having won 9 out of the last 10.  The 9-0 win is the Lady Leps sixth shutout of an NBC opponent this season and they are outscoring league opponents 91-10. Louisville’s magic number is now 3 to clinch a share of the NBC and 4 to clinch the title outright.
