Louisville Finishes 3-0 at Duhon Tournament

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team finished undefeated at George Duhon Memorial Tournament held this past weekend at Arthur Genshaft Memorial Park in Massillon. Louisville defeated GlenOak 7-4 on Friday. The Lady Leopards followed that by dominating both games of their double header Saturday. They trounced St. Vincent-St. Mary 23-5 in the morning and run-ruled Alliance 11-0 in five innings after that. With the three victories, Louisville improves to 13-1 on the season.


April 19: Louisville 7, GlenOak 4

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdBailee Griffith and Matti Benson both hit 2-run homers to give the Lady Leopards an early 4-0 advantage. Griffith’s homer was the first of her varsity career as it gave Louisville a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Benson’s 2-run shot to center field in the third inning was her record-breaking 32nd career home run. Grace Jackson (2013-2016) set the previous high mark of 31 during her senior season seven years prior. Benson’s dinger doubled the Lady Leopard lead to 4-0.

Ryleigh Hall answered with a three-run homer for GlenOak in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Louisville lead to 4-3.

However, the Lady Leopards would increase their lead to four runs once more with three more timely hits. Leah Campbell cracked a 2-out RBI double bringing home Addy Campbell in the fifth. Anna Sirohman also singled home Kaitlin Twinem and Kenzi Denzer drove in Benson to make it 7-3  in the sixth inning.

Louisville would out-hit GlenOak 11-8 for the game. Katelyn Miller, Sirohman, and Twinem would all finish with a pair of hits each .

Taylor Schneider earned the victory in the circle for the Lady Leopards pitching 4 2/3 innings, surrendering 2 runs on 4 hits, and striking out 3. Sirohman also worked 2 1/3 innings and fanned 3.


April 20: Louisville 23, St. Vincent-St. Mary 5

Louisville erupted for a team record 15 runs in the seventh inning to turn what was a closely contested game into a 23-5 blowout. The 15 runs eclipses the previous record of 13 that was set twice previously. The Lady Leopards scored 13 runs in the first inning of their 15-0 win at Carrollton on April 30, 2013. Louisville also scored 13 runs in the second inning in an 18-2 home win over GlenOak on March 24, 2012.

Addy Campbell’s 2-run homer to center capped off the 15-run seventh inning in which 9 runs were scored with 2 outs. Campbell would finish 4-for-6 with two RBI singles, a double, and 3 runs scored for LHS.

The Leopards out-hit the Irish 26-8 for the contest and 8 Louisville batters recorded 3 or more hits. Chay Cline went 3-for-4 with a triple, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Brooke Haren also went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. 

Matti Benson and Kenzi Denzer each batted 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs for the Lady Leopards. Benson ripped 3 doubles and scored 4 runs. Denzer also added a double.

Bailee Griffith, Katelyn Miller, and Olivia Mongiardo also finished 3-for-5 at the plate. Mongiardo and Miller both scored thrice as well. Leah Claugus rounded out Louisville’s highlights at the dish by going 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

The Lady Leopards took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Irish answered back to cut their deficit to 6-5. Louisville would score 17 unanswered runs after that.


April 20: Louisville 11, Alliance 0, 5 Innings
