The Louisville Leopards JV Football team fell in a shootout against the visiting Dover Tornadoes 42-26 Saturday Morning in their season opener at Louisville Leopards Stadium.

Anderson TD Catches Give Leopards the Lead

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdSophomore Seth Anderson caught a pair of touchdown passes to help the Leopards take an 18-14 lead with 2:57 left to play in the third quarter. Anderson caught a 39 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Caleb Miller on the opening drive of the game. Then facing 3rd-and-8 in the third quarter, sophomore quarterback Charlie Roberts stepped up to his left and rifled a pass to Anderson who found a seam between four Tornado defenders. Anderson cut back to his right leaving two more defenders in the dust before hurdling over one final would be tackler for a 26 yard score.

Hamm Helps Tornadoes Reclaim the Lead

Dover answered with a pair of touchdowns to take the lead for good. Tornadoes Quarterback Benjamin Hamm delivered a shovel pass to Joseph Farthing for what was technically a 15 yard touchdown pass to put DHS back in front 21-18. That score capped off a 5 play, 75 yard drive that only took 1:16 off the clock.

After a stop on defense, Dover drove deep into Louisville territory again after a Hamm to Elisha Worst 34 yard connection set them up on the Leopard 9. After an 8 yard gain on first down set up a 2nd-and-Goal from the 1, the Louisville defense threw up a brick wall and the next two plays went for no gain. Finally. Hamm put his head down for a quarterback sneak from a yard out to put the Tornadoes ahead by two scores at 28-18.

Louisville Inches Closer

The Leopards cut the deficit closer one final time in mounting a 7 play, 75 yard drive. Roberts scampered in from a yard out and ran in the two-point conversion leaving Louisville down just 28-26 with 5:08 left to play.

Dover Puts the Game Away on the Ground

Samantha's Grill AdDover would score the final two touchdowns of the contest on the ground. Mitchell Martin scored on an 11 yard run up the middle to put the Tornadoes ahead 35-26. The Leopards were unable to convert a 4th-and-17 in their own territory on the ensuing drive which gave Dover a short field at the Louisville 16. On 3rd-and-9, Hamm faked on handoff to Martin and ran 15 yards to the endzone for the final nail in the coffin making it 42-26 with 1:30 remaining.

Hamm finished with 3 rushing touchdowns to go along with a pair of touchdown passes. He also threw a 12 yard touchdown strike to Jacob Jones in the first quarter and ran in a score from 9 yards away in the second quarter. Hamm’s lone mistake was a first half interception to Leopards sophomore Kyle Vesely at the LHS 40. However, Louisville returned the favor by fumbling the ball away three plays later. Troy Thompson recovered for the Tornadoes on the LHS 47.

Leopard Freshman Rotate Series with JV

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdThe Leopards JV and Freshman teams were both present for Saturday’s JV contest and rotated on several drives both offense and defense. The Louisville Freshman offense strung together a 10 play, 75 yard drive in the second quarter that featured a pair of third down conversion completions from quarterback Andrew Corona to Jimmy Beavers. On 4th-and-5 on the next series of downs, Corona found Hayden Nigro down the right sideline for a 29 yard touchdown. That cut the deficit to 14-12.

The Leopards Freshman defense made sure the Tornadoes would not add to their lead just before halftime. Braylon Taylor recorded a pair of sacks and Will Ramsey had another as the clock ticked down to triple zeros to end the first half.

UP NEXT: The Leopards JV will next host the GlenOak Golden Eagles on Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 AM.
