My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdThe Louisville Leopards JV Football Team’s comeback bid fell short in a 10-8 loss to the visiting GlenOak Golden Eagles Saturday Morning at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the loss, Louisville is now 0-2 on the season.

GlenOak senior linebacker Maleik Richardson made a leaping interception at the 5 yard line with under a minute to play to halt the Leopards final drive and secure the Golden Eagles victory. Earlier in the third quarter, sophomore defensive back AJ Johnson tipped away a Leopard 4th-and-goal pass and Richardson caught the deflection in the endzone to help GlenOak keep their 10-6 edge.

The Golden Eagles fumbled the snap into their own endzone two plays later. Sophomore quarterback Stephen Mowery fell on it for a safety as Louisville sophomore defensive backs Conner Morley and Brandon Jackson were closing in. The safety may have actually helped GlenOak in the long run as they were no longer pinned back on their own end.

Earlier, the Leopards offense went three-and-out to start the game and the Golden Eagles went to the ground game to get on the board first. Sophomore runningback Brandon Batson rumbled to his right for a 44 yard opening drive touchdown to put GlenOak in front 7-0. Baston also keyed the Eagles second scoring drive with a pair of 10+ yard first down runs. However, the Louisville defense stiffened and GlenOak settled for a 32 yard field goal via sophomore kicker Nick MacDonald to make it 10-0.

Samantha's Grill AdLouisville got back in the game late in the first half. A sack by sophomore defensive back Luke Castles forced a Golden Eagle punt attempt, but they never got the kick away. The combination of a high snap and a charging sophomore linebacker Joey Johnson forced the GlenOak punter to pull down the ball and run with it. Sophomore defensive back Kelob Hannum and Castles made the tackle to force the turnover on downs at the GOHS 20.

The Leopards netted just 5 yards on the next three offensive plays and faced 4th-and-5 from the 15. The hard count got the Golden Eagles jump and Louisville was gifted with a 1st-and-goal on the 10 yard line. Three plays later, junior quarterback Caleb Miller rolled to his left and threw off his back foot to sophomore wide receiver Seth Anderson who pulled down the touchdown catch on the left side of the endzone. Miller was sacked on the conversion attempt and LHS went into the half down 10-6.

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdDespite the loss, the Leopards JV defense had an all-around great game after giving up the initial Golden Eagle touchdown. Junior linebacker Ethan Thomas led the Louisville defense with 2 sacks unofficially. Junior defensive lineman Antonio Magueyal and sophomore linebacker Josh Coleman also recorded sacks for GlenOak.

UP NEXT: The JV Leopards will next host the Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish on Saturday, September 12. Game time is set for 10:00 AM from Louisville Leopards Stadium.
