Meyer Makes History with 3rd-Place Finish, Fastest State Meet Time in Program History – Girls Cross Country

The Louisville Leopards fall sports season concluded Saturday afternoon with two Lady Leopards on the line at the OHSAA Division II State Cross Country Meet at Fortress Obetz & Memorial Park in Obetz, Ohio. Senior Kylah Meyer and junior Amelie Anderson carried the blue and white into the final meet of 2025 and added one more milestone chapter to a memorable campaign.

Meyer Makes School History Taking 3rd at State
Meyer delivered the best individual state meet finish in program history, placing 3rd in Division II in 17:59.86. Meyer’s podium run surpasses the previous Louisville state-meet best of 9th set by Mackenzie Rankin in the 2010 Division I state race. Meyer also became the first Lady Leopard to break 18:00 at the state meet in posting the fastest postseason/state time in school history.
Coming into the season, Rankin’s 2010 state meet time of 18:19.8 had stood as the program’s overall benchmark until Meyer reset the record twice in back-to-back September meets — 18:10.52 at the Wooster Invitational and then 17:53.1 at the Jackson HeckSpacular. Meyer also clocked 18:19.7 at the DII Boardman Regional last week, just one-tenth of a second ahead of Rankin’s postseason best time from the 2010 state meet.
In a fitting “passing of the torch,” Rankin was inducted into the Louisville High School Athletic Hall of Fame on October 3; less than a month on either side of that honor, Meyer broke Rankin’s school records and then eclipsed her state-meet mark as well.
Meyer’s Moves Past Kennedy in Final Split
Meyer asserted herself from the gun and never left the lead pack. She held second place clocking 1:24.04 at the 400m mark less than 2 seconds behind Athen’s eventual state champion Sophia Szolosi (1:22.09). Szolosi would distance herself from the pack over the next 1200 meters, but Meyer maintained second place with a time of 5:33.99 at the 1600 meter mark.
Meyers dropped into fourth place (11:28.72) behind Hathaway Brown’s Anna Prusak (11:21.59) and Maumee’s Teagan Kennedy (11:27.14) at the 3200 meter mark. However, Meyers finished strong with a time of 6:31.14 in the final split to surpass Kennedy at the finish line by 3.18 seconds to take third.
Anderson Gains Valuable Experience in State Debut
Anderson made her first state appearance and finished 132nd out of 216 Division II runners in 20:28.01. She went out assertively (54th at 400m in 1:29.55), settled into the race near the top 100 (101st at 3200m in 12:35.35), and battled through the final kilometer to the line.
Anderson will look to return even stronger for her senior campaign in 2026.
Szolosi Nearly Breaks State Record En Rout to Title
Szolosi led wire-to-wire finishing as the Division II state champion. Her 17:02.50 was the fastest amongst all divisions including the next best time of Insert info here. She finished just 2.7 seconds behind the all-time state 5000K record of 16:59.8 set by Beaumont legend Katy Radkewich in the 1996 Division II state championship race.
Bishop Watterson would capture the Division II team title with all five runners finishing in the top 52 amongst team runners. Their 158 total places was just 3 points ahead of Hathaway Brown who finished as the Division II runner-up. Prusak paced the Blazers as the Division II individual runner-up with a time of 17:51.92, less than 8 seconds ahead of Meyer.
Meyer the Fastest Time in Stark County
Gahanna Lincoln won the Division I team title with Elena Aldrink (Olentangy Liberty) finishing as the DI state champion in 17:25.90. Five total Division I runners finished sub-18:00 ahead of Meyer’s time. DIV State Champion Kaitlyn Carr (Smithville) was the only DIII/DIV runner to finish with a 17-minute time at 17:29.19. Meyer had the ninth best time amongst state runners at all divisions as a result. Oakwood also claimed the Division III state title and Ottawa Hills won state in Division IV.
Irelyn Johnson (Marlington) finished as the Division III state champion. Her time of 18:10.89 served as the second-best time for any Stark County runner at the state meet, only behind the fastest the county has to offer in Meyer.
Meyer earned 1st Team All-State. Both Anderson and Meyer were Academic All-Ohio as well.
From surpassing the legend of a Hall-of-Fame runner to a record-setting present, Louisville’s state-meet story in 2025 was about legacy and momentum. Meyer’s podium and sub-18 state run moved the bar higher than ever, and Anderson’s debut keeps the path lit for what’s next. The future of Lady Leopards cross country looks fast and bright!
