Cozy Homers Twice in Softball’s Shutout Win Vs. Lions
Louisville 10, Minerva 0, 6 Innings
The Louisville Lady Leopards Varsity Softball team blanked the visiting Minerva Lions 10-0 in 6 Innings Tuesday at LHS. With their ninth straight victory, Louisville improves to 16-6 overall and 10-1 in NBC play.
Katie Cozy led the Lady Leopards by batting 2-for-3 with a pair of 2-run homers. Cozy easily cleared the fence in dead center in the first inning and then helped file another insurance claim with a dinger off a car in left field in the third inning. Cozy now has 8 home runs on the year and 25 for her career.
In the circle, Kirsten Wharmby pitched a complete game, 6 inning shutout and struck out 12 to lead Louisville. Minerva’s only real threat came in the second inning when Hume’s double put runners on second and third with one out. Wharmby got the next two Lions to strike out swinging in ending the frame.
Kylie Zifer also batted 2-for-3 with a 2-run double and Grace Jackson drove in a run offensively. Louisville managed 10 runs off just 5 hits courtesy of 8 Minerva errors.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now defeated the Lions in 14 straight meetings. Louisville now leads the all-time series 38-10, which includes a 19-5 mark at home.
