Carrollton 60, Louisville 56

The two teams combined to hit 17 three-pointers before visiting Carrollton edged Louisville 60-56 Friday Night.  The Leopards were led by Blake Hoover with season-high 20 points and Pavin Parks with 14 points and 4 three-pointers.

The Warriors used 10 three-pointers to escape with the victory.  Carrollton’s Caleb Pasiuk was red-hot from long range and hit 7 from beyond the arch accounting for 21 of his game-high 22 points on the evening.  Andrew Collins also hit 2 three-pointers and scored 15 points on the evening for the Warriors.

The Leopards built a 28-20 lead late in the second quarter, but the Warriors trimmed the Louisville advantage to 30-29 at the break.  The offensive first half nearly matched the final score of the same contest a year ago at LHS which Carrollton won by a count of 32-30.

Hoover remained consistent throughout the whole contest and was a large part of Louisville’s success in building a first half lead.  The Sophomore Post scored 10 points in each half and tallied home 9 total field goals.

Yet even with their efforts the Leopards found themselves down 47-38 after the Warriors blitzed them with an 18-point third quarter.  But Louisville fought on.  Hoover Beatty's Winter Hoodiesmade a circus basket to end the third quarter and dropped in another tough shot to start the final period.  Following that, back-to-back three-pointers by Parks got the Leopards back to within one point just 95 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Out of a timeout, Carrollton answered back with a few punches of their own.  Pasiuk hit a three-pointer from the left corner, was fouled in the process, and then completed a rare four-point play.  Then Zade Deitz buried a three-ball from the opposite side of the arch to inflate the Warriors lead to 56-48.

The resilient Leopards answered back in the form of Joe Crank’s pair of deep three-pointers that cut the deficit to two.   Collins made a runner off the glass to extend the Carrollton advantage back to four, but Hoover broke through the tough defense of Stephen Erickson to match Collins with 1:22 left in the game.  Carrollton 58, Louisville 56.

Time melted away and then Louisville caught a break on a questionable Carrollton back-court violation.  On the ensuing possession, a golden opportunity escaped the Leopards when they lost the ball out of bounce on the baseline.  The Leps were still just down just one possession with seconds remaining and thus hope remained.  But that hope was extinguished when Jake Peterson buried his ninth and tenth points of the contest from the free throw line to give Carrollton a devastating 60-56 lead that soon after became the final score.

With seven straight victories over Louisville, Carrollton has narrowed the Leopards all-time series lead to 41-27.  Louisville has now lost five straight, which is their longest losing streak since 2008.  But their hearts were in every play for all 1,920 seconds played on the court Friday night.  They will look to carry this momentum into Tuesday when they host Alliance.
