The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team split a double header with the visiting Carrollton Warriors on brisk Saturday afternoon at Andy Aljanic Field. Louisville shutout Carrollton in the first game 3-0, while the Warriors rallied in the second game before prevailing 4-2 in 10 innings. With the split, Louisville is now 8-7 on the season.

Game 1 GameChanger Recap

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdLouisville Varsity Leopards defeated Carrollton Varsity Warriors 3-0 on Saturday at Louisville High School as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Caden Kortis and Grayson Brunoni each pitched for Louisville Varsity Leopards in the game. Brunoni got Isaac Husted to hit into a fielder’s choice to get the last out.

Both teams were strong on the mound. Louisville Varsity Leopards pitchers struck out eight, while Carrollton Varsity Warriors sat down three.

West Main Vet Clinic AdLouisville Varsity Leopards opened the scoring in the second after Kortis singled, scoring two runs.

Kortis stepped on the bump first for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking six. Husted started on the bump for Carrollton Varsity Warriors. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking three. Brunoni tossed one inning of no-run ball for Louisville Varsity Leopards in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out none and walking one.

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdJake Beard, Cody Zahler, Brock Leghart, John Baker, Kortis, Brunoni, and Luke Seaman each collected one hit for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Kortis led Louisville Varsity Leopards with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Kortis stole two bases. Louisville Varsity Leopards stole five bases in the game.

Branden Marshall went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Carrollton Varsity Warriors in hits. Brayden Swearingen paced Carrollton Varsity Warriors with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.

Next up for Louisville Varsity Leopards is a game against Carrollton on Saturday.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdEven though Louisville Varsity Leopards collected eight hits to Carrollton Varsity Warriors’s six, they still fell 4-2 on Saturday at Louisville High School. Max Roberts led Louisville Varsity Leopards with two hits.

An error put Carrollton Varsity Warriors on the board in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third inning, Louisville Varsity Leopards went back into the lead after Zander Triplett hit a sacrifice fly, and Noah Morris laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.

West Main Vet Clinic AdBranden Marshall lined out, which helped Carrollton Varsity Warriors tie the game at two in the top of the seventh.

Carrollton Varsity Warriors jumped back into the lead in the top of the tenth inning after Hunter Allison doubled to left field, and Jurkiewicz singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Triplett and Morris were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Louisville Varsity Leopards.

Allison, Marshall, and Jurkiewicz each drove in one run for Carrollton Varsity Warriors. Carrollton Varsity Warriors had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Jaden Murphy and C Husted led the team with two walks each. Jayven Johnson stole two bases. Carrollton Varsity Warriors stole five bases in the game. Carrollton Varsity Warriors turned two double plays in the game.

Louisville Varsity Leopards will travel to Perry for their next game on Monday.
