Lady Leopards Blank Cardinals 4-0 for First Win – Girls Soccer

The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer Team shutout the visiting Cardinals Mooney Cardinals Monday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With their first victory of the year, Louisville improves to 1-2 on the young season.


Allan and Kimble Score 1st Half Goals

Jenny Can Cleaning AdAfter being shutout in two hard-fought opening games, the Lady Leopards finally got on the board at the end of the 11th minute. Senior goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan made an easy save on the defensive end and booted the ball to midfield. The ball bounced hard off the turf and the hop was misplayed by a Cardinal defender. Sophomore Payton Allan was a step ahead of the defender and took control on the breakaway. Allan pushed the ball ahead to Kimble, who had come flying down the field on her left. Kimble shot mere feet away from the Mooney goalkeeper who had come charging in. Kimble and a Cardinal defender collided and the ball ricocheted ahead into the box. Allan took control and booted the ball with her left foot into the open net to give Louisville its first lead of the season.

Sophomore Sydney Sheldon intercepted a Cardinal Mooney pass around midfield and booted a high-arching kick ahead toward the goal. Staying onside, Kimble raced passed a defender and kicked the ball in midair passed the charging backup goalkeeper and into the back of the net to put Louisville ahead 2-0.


Beatty and Bush Added 2nd Half Scores

Kimble was also paramount in setting up the Lady Leopards third goal of the game in the second half. She stole the ball away and dribbled quickly down the left side of the field. A Cardinal Mooney defender deflected the ball to Kimble’s left but she was able to regain control at the edge of the box. Kimble then switched direction back to her right and delivered a hard shot on goal. The ball deflected off the fingertips of the diving Cardinal starting goalkeeper and found the leg of freshman Sammi Beatty. She redirected the ball into the open net for her first career varsity goal to up the Louisville advantage to 3-0.

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdSenior Gracie Bush scored the Lady Leopards final goal with 11:09 remaining in the contest. A Mooney goal kick deflected off a Cardinal player and over to sophomore Alissa Lingenhoel near the right sideline. She delivered a perfect lead pass 30 yards ahead to Bush who beat a defender, and the goalkeeper, shooting right to left into the side of the net.


Henderhan Adds Another Shutout to Legacy

While she only faced two shots on goal in the game, Henderhan continued to cement her legacy by recording her 19th career shutout at goalkeeper for Louisville.

The Lady Leopards dominated the Lady Cardinals from start to finish. They controlled possession throughout, led 10-2 in shots on goal, and held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

This was the first ever meeting between Louisville and Cardinal Mooney in girls soccer.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer Team will next host the GlenOak Golden Eagles on Saturday, August 27. Game time is slated for 5:00 PM from Louisville Leopards Stadium.
