Leopards Overcome Early Deficit, Blow Past Cardinals 11-4 – Softball
Louisville 11, Canfield 4
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team rallied back from a 4-run first inning deficit to defeat the visiting Canfield Cardinals 11-4 Thursday Evening at the Diamond of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville improves to 11-2 on the year and extends their current winning streak to 6 games heading into the Duhon Tournament this weekend in Massillon.
Kaylee Nolte batted 3-for-4, drove in 4 runs, and scored a pair of runs to lead the Lady Leopards. Nolte singled home Kaycee Ollis in the opening inning to start her evening. Then doubled to begin the fifth inning and came home via a single by Sarah Cantley. She topped her day off with a 3-run homer to center field that gave the Lady Leopards a commanding 11-4 lead that they would take to the end. The dinger was Nolte’s third of the season and Louisville’s 17th as a team for the year.
Sydney McKeever also had a 3-hit day with a pair of RBIs and 3 runs scored. Trailing 4-0, McKeever started the Leopards comeback by beating out a ground ball to third base for an infield single in the bottom of the first. She made history two pitches later when she swiped second base to record the 50th stolen base of her varsity career. Teagan Rice singled on a the following pitch and McKeever sped in to score from second to get Louisville on the board.
McKeever reached on an error in the second inning which allowed Justina Sirohman and Lexi Zavarelle to score on the play to tie the game at 4-4. Ollis hit a sacrifice fly to plate McKeever for the go-ahead run two batters later.
Ollis finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and 2-out RBI single in the fifth to put the Lady Leopards ahead 6-4. Louisville out-hit Canfield 15-3 as a team. Rice and Zavarelle both batted 2-for-3 for the evening as well.
With the victory, the Leopards have now won 3 out of their last 4 against the Cardinals. Louisville is now 5-2 against Canfield all-time which includes a 3-1 mark at home.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Softball Team will next compete at the Duhon Tournament at Genshaft Park in Massillon this weekend.
