Louisville Claims Opening Set, Canfield Sweeps Next Three – Volleyball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball Team captured the opening set before the visiting Canfield Cardinals rallied to win the next three Tuesday evening at Louisville High School.

Louisville took the first frame 25-21, but Canfield answered with victories of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-22 to earn a 3-1 victory. The Lady Leopards moved to 10-5 overall and 2-4 in league play, while the Cardinals improved to 15-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Kloey Rukavina led the Lady Leopards with 14 kills and 5 blocks, while Dakota Gross added 12 kills.

Aubrey Johnston anchored the Louisville defense with a match-high 31 digs while also contributing 11 service points and 3 aces.

Setter Bailey Cole distributed 21 assists for the Leopards.

Leopards Take Opening Set Before Cardinals Rally

Louisville started the night on top, battling past Canfield 25-21 in the opening set.

The Cardinals responded decisively in the second, winning 25-16 to even the match before taking the third 25-17 for a 2-1 advantage.

Louisville battled to extend the match in a tighter fourth set, but Canfield held off the Lady Leopards 25-22 to finish the four-set victory.

Tuesday marked the second meeting between the teams this season. Louisville also fell in four sets at Canfield earlier in the year, 19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards Volleyball Team will next travel to take on the Boardman Spartans on Thursday, October 1. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM from Boardman High School.

JV Leopards Rally Past Canfield

The Louisville JV Volleyball Team rebounded from an opening-set loss to defeat Canfield in three sets 18-25, 25-23, 25-18.

After the Cardinals took the opener, Louisville edged Canfield 25-23 in the second to force a deciding third frame. The Lady Leopards then finished the comeback with a 25-18 victory.

Brynn Burick turned in an all-around performance with 26 assists, 12 service points, 4 aces, and 12 digs. Makayla Tanner led the attack with 8 kills, while Cassie Rhome added 7 kills.

The JV Leopards improved to 12-3 on the season and to 4-2 against conference foes.

Freshman Leopards Sweep League Tri-Match at Canfield

Louisville’s freshman team enjoyed a perfect Monday evening at Canfield, rallying to defeat both Austintown Fitch and the host Cardinals in three sets.

The Lady Leopards opened with a 25-13, 19-25, 25-18 victory over Fitch. Louisville then faced Canfield and again responded after dropping a set, rallying for a dramatic 19-25, 25-19, 27-25 victory.

The pair of wins improved the freshman Leopards to an impressive 9-1 on the season.

Louisville will next compete Saturday in a tri-match at St. Vincent-St. Mary with Lake.

Middle School Leopards Sweep Lake Center Christian

Both Louisville Middle School squads earned victories Monday evening at Lake Center Christian.

8th Grade: Louisville 22-25-25, Lake Center Christian 25-16-19

The 8th grade Leopards rallied after dropping their opening set to win 22-25, 25-16, 25-19. Emery Sharp led Louisville with 6 aces, while Mia Wallace recorded a team-high 5 kills.

The victory improved the eighth grade team to 14-5.

7th Grade: Louisville 25-26, Lake Center Christian 21-24

The 7th grade Leopards swept Lake Center Christian 25-21, 26-24. Delaney Perez served 5 aces, while Piper Walker led the attack with 2 kills.

Louisville’s seventh grade team also improved to 14-5.

Both middle school squads will next return home Thursday to face Western Catholic.
