The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team defeated the visiting Boardman Spartans 9-4 Thursday Evening at Andy Aljancic Field. The victory snaps Louisville’s three-game losing streak as they improve to 9-6 on the year.

Beard and Rice Lead Louisville

Jakeb Beard went 2-for-3 with three RBI plate appearances. He got the scoring started in the opening inning with an RBI double. Beard later delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth that would prove to be the winning run. He also hit a sacrifice fly scoring Cooper Rice in the fifth that put the Leopards in front 7-4.

Rice went a perfect 4-for-4 hitting in the lead-off spot. He scored a pair of runs and cracked an RBI triple in the sixth that upped the Louisville advantage to 9-4 heading into the final frame.


Miller and Root Register Multi-Hit Games

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdCole Miller and Zach Root also registered multi-hit games for the Leopards. Miller went 2-for-2 with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Root finished 2-for-5 and also reached on an error in the fifth inning that plated Bryce Graziani. Graziani would score 3 of Louisville’s 9 runs on the evening.

The Leopards trailed 2-1 after the third, but answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Corona’s 2-run double kickstarted Louisville’s scoring barrage and gave them a 3-2 advantage. Louisville would never trail again.

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdOwen Burick and Zach Ganser also hit doubles as the Leopards finished with 6 extra base-hits as a team and out-hit the Spartans 14-2.


Aljancic Earns Win and Johnson Claims Save

Starting pitcher Tate Aljancic threw the first 4 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on just 2 hits, walking 3, and striking out 1. With the effort, Aljancic now leads the team in wins for the season improving to 3-1 on the year.

Blake Johnson entered the game with the bases loaded and 1 out in the fifth inning. The Spartans managed to score a pair of runs, but Johnson worked out of the frame keeping the Leopards in front 5-4. He would work the final 2 2/3 inning of the contest allowing no runs, no hits, walking 2, and striking out 2. The outing earned Johnson his team best fourth save of the season.


Konnerth Leads Boardman

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieAdam Konnerth tripled on a line drive to left field in the top of third that brought home Ben Herrmann. Kaden Mayhew then drove in Konnerth on a ground out to second base that put the Spartans in front 2-1. 

Louisville recaptured the lead in the fourth pulling ahead 5-2. Mayhew was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded plating Hermann. Then Charlie Young drove in Ivan Rudick on a fielder’s choice to cut the lead to 5-4.

Boardman was unable to get any closer as the Leopards went on to win 9-4. The loss was the Spartans fifth straight as they drop to 4-9 on the season.
