Rogers Scores Game-High 17 to Lead Louisville

West Main Vet Clinic AdCohen Rogers scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the opening half to help the Leopards build a 30-18 halftime lead. Rogers knocked down 3 of Louisville’s 6 first half three-pointers.

Max Mathie also made a pair of three-pointers to account for all of his points. Drake Wilson hit a first-quarter triple, scored in every quarter, and finished with 7.

Sanders Ends Leopards’ Fourth-Quarter Scoring Spell

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdIn the second half, Rogers would be limited to just 2 points and the Leopards did not connect on a shot from beyond the arc. Still, the Leopards held a comfortable 42-33 after a putback by Colten Norris with 6:47 remaining.

Following that basket, Louisville endured a scoring drought of nearly six minutes. Meanwhile, Barberton strung together an 8-0 run to get to within 42-41. The Leopards finally broke the spell when Norris passed to a cutting Brandon Sanders in the lane for a basket with two minutes left. The clutch shot put Louisville ahead 44-41. Sanders finished with 8 points.

Norris Puts the Game Away in Final 22 Seconds

Neither team would score again until Norris hit the first of two free throws with 21.9 seconds remaining, to put the Leopards ahead by two possessions. After a lane violation on Barberton, Norris missed the second attempt hard off the front of the rim.

However, the miss proved to be a blessing as it ricocheted off a Magics player straight into the hands of Wilson at the top of the key. Wilson also split a pair of free throws to up the Louisville advantage to 46-41.

Barberton attempted a three-pointer from the left corner on the ensuing possession. The shot banged off the left side of the rim and was pulled down by Norris on the other side of the hoop. Norris quickly passed to Colton Dougherty, who was fouled with six ticks left. Dougherty followed suit by hitting 1-of-2 free throws to remove all doubt, making the score 47-41.

Norris would finish with 3 points. Jake Baker, Dougherty, and Gabe Stoffer rounded out the Leopard scoring with 2 points each.

Antoine James and Vernon Reynolds both finished in double figures and were instrumental in Barberton’s comeback bid. James made a three-pointer in the third quarter and started the fourth quarter with a dunk to set the table for a Magics rally. James would finish with 11 points.

Reynolds scored 6 of his team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter. He drove to the basket for a score and then followed that up with a steal and score to get the Magics to within a single point with about 3:17 left in the game. However, the Leopards’ defense clamped down and didn’t allow Barberton to score again.

Other scorers for the Magics included: Canaan Yeager with 7,  Camdyn McNulty with 4, Uriah Young with 3, Jamil Johnson with 2, and Mareon Peters with 1.

After starting off 4-1, Barberton has now lost 4 of its last 6 dropping to 6-5 on the season.
