Leopards Bounce Back with Win Over Ellet 7-3 – Baseball

The Louisville Leopards Baseball team bounced back with a 7-3 victory over the visiting Akron Ellet Orangemen Thursday Evening at Andy Aljancic Field. With the victory, Louisville improves to 6-4 on the season.

Siegfried & Corona Lead Louisville
Junior catcher Karson Siegfried batted 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBIs to lead the Leopards. He doubled home sophomore shortstop Andrew Corona for Louisville’s first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Later in the game, Siegfried singled home Corona again to cap off a 3-run Louisville fourth inning which saw LHS grab a 6-3 lead.
Corona finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and also drove in a pair of runs. Corona singled home senior center fielder Kyle Vesely in the third inning and later knocked home senior left fielder Connor Adelman on a single to center in the fourth inning.
Root Settles In to Strikeout 8 in Victory
Sophomore starting pitcher Zach Root dominated after a rough start to earn his second victory of the season. Root allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in the opening inning as the Orangemen took a 3-0 advantage. Root settled in after that retiring nine batters in a row and 16 of the final 17 Ellet hitters he faced through the sixth inning.
Altogether Root pitched 6 innings, gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, and struck out 8. He allowed just a single hit over his final five scoreless innings of work before giving way to senior pitcher Caleb Miller.
Miller faced the minimum in the seventh even though two runners reached base via errors. He recorded the first out on a pickoff throw to first base. Miller’s final victim grounded into a 6-4-3 game-ending double play as LHS prevailed 7-3.
Leopards Rally From Early Deficit
While Root settled in, the Louisville bats got to work scoring seven unanswered runs. Siegfried hit his second double of the game in the bottom of the third before being replaced by junior courtesy runner Charlie Roberts. Roberts would steal third base and come home via an error by the catcher to tie the game at 3-3 in the third inning.
The Leopards took their first lead of the contest in the fourth inning. Junior second baseman Connor Morley and Adelman started the LHS fourth with back-to-back singles. A wild pitch allowed them to advance to second and third with no one out. Then Zack Seaman gave Louisville the lead with a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Morley to tag and score from third to make it 4-3.
The Leopards would never surrender their advantage in tacking on three more insurance runs. Louisville’s final run came in the fifth inning when Morley drove in sophomore first baseman Cole Miller who doubled in the at-bat before.
