Louisville Takes Down Howland in Four Sets – Volleyball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball Team bounced back from Tuesday’s five-set loss to Boardman with a four-set victory over the visiting Howland Tigers Thursday evening at Louisville High School.
Louisville defeated Howland 25-12, 28-30, 25-12, 25-22 to improve to 8-3 on the season. The JV Lady Leopards also rallied from an opening-set loss to defeat the Tigers in three sets and improve to 9-2.
The varsity and JV victories capped a busy two-day stretch throughout the Louisville volleyball program that also included freshman action at Howland and middle school matches against Howland and Austintown.

Leopards Rebound With Four-Set Win Over Howland
Louisville came out firing in the opening set, controlling the Tigers from the start in a convincing 25-12 victory.
Howland responded with the most competitive set of the match. The second frame extended well beyond the usual 25-point finish before the Tigers eventually prevailed 30-28 to even the match at one set apiece.
The Lady Leopards answered emphatically.
Louisville duplicated its opening-set score with another 25-12 victory in the third to retake control of the match. The Tigers battled to stay alive in the fourth, but the Leopards finished them off 25-22 to secure the four-set victory.
The win improved Louisville to 8-3 on the season.
Rukavina Pounds 26 Kills in Victory
Kloey Rukavina powered the Louisville attack with a season-high 26 kills while also recording 15 service points.
Ella Tillett added 11 kills and 4 blocks at the net, while setter Addison Johnston distributed 56 assists.
Defensively, Aubrey Johnston turned in another big performance with a team-high 30 digs.
JV Leopards Rally Past Tigers
The Louisville JV Volleyball Team overcame a first-set loss to defeat Howland 18-25, 25-9, 25-10.
After falling 25-18 in the opener, the Lady Leopards completely flipped the match. Louisville dominated the second set 25-9 before carrying that momentum into a 25-10 victory in the deciding third.
Rachel Beltz led the defense with 17 digs. Gianna Pederzolli filled the stat sheet with 8 aces, 9 digs, and 4 kills, while Brynn Burick recorded 16 assists and 4 aces.
The JV Leopards improved to 9-2 on the season.
Freshman Leopards Compete in Tri-Match at Howland

Middle School Leopards Sweep Howland
Louisville’s seventh and eighth grade teams both earned victories at Howland on Wednesday evening.
The 8th grade Leopards swept the Tigers 25-13, 25-21. Bailee Headland led Louisville with 6 kills, while Kelsey Dadisman served 3 aces. The victory improved the eighth grade team to 10-3.
The 7th grade Leopards were equally impressive, rolling past Howland 25-6, 25-19. Delaney Perez led Louisville with 5 aces, while Morgan Samblanet, Brooklynn Byrd, Rory Ziemke, and Piper Walker each recorded 2 kills.
The seventh grade Lady Leopards improved to 11-2.
Middle School Teams Split at Austintown
Both Louisville Middle School teams returned to action Thursday evening at Austintown, with each squad splitting matches against Austintown Blue and Red.
The 7th grade Leopards opened against Austintown Blue and captured the first set 25-16 before falling in the final two frames 25-18 and 25-20. Maddie Claugus served 8 aces, while Rory Ziemke recorded 5 kills and a block.
Louisville bounced back against Austintown Red with a commanding 25-9, 25-12 sweep. Kamry Rukavina served 4 aces, while Ziemke and Claugus each finished with 3 kills.
The split moved the seventh grade Leopards to 12-3.
The 8th grade Leopards also went 1-1 on the evening. Louisville fell to Austintown Red in three sets 14-25, 25-16, 20-25 before responding with a 25-16, 25-18 sweep of Austintown Blue.
The eighth grade Lady Leopards finished the night with an 11-4 record.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards Volleyball Team will next host the Austintown Fitch Falcons on Tuesday, September 15. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM from Louisville High School.
