Lady Leopards Succumb to Spartan Rally from Two Sets Down – Volleyball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball Team won the first two sets before the visiting Boardman Spartans rallied to defeat the Lady Leopards in five sets Tuesday night at Louisville High School.

Louisville captured the opening two frames 31-29 and 25-13, but Boardman responded by winning the final three 25-17, 25-20, 15-5 to complete the comeback. The loss dropped the Leopards to 7-3 on the season.

Dakota Gross turned in a huge offensive performance with a team-high 27 kills.

Karis Miglich contributed across the board with 13 kills, 19 digs, and 5 aces, while Aubrey Johnston anchored the Louisville defense with a team-high 29 digs and added 2 aces.

Setter Addison Johnston distributed 50 assists as the Leopards produced plenty of offense throughout the five-set match.

Louisville moves to 7-3 on the season.

Leopards Take Command With 2-0 Lead

The opening set turned into an extended battle with neither team able to finish the other off at the traditional 25-point mark. Louisville eventually prevailed 31-29 to grab the early advantage.

The 31 points scored by the Lady Leopards in the opening set is tied for the third most in their history. Louisville lost a set to Jackson 34-32 in 2020 and also won an opening set against Canfield 33-31 last season.

The Lady Leopards carried that momentum into the second set and took control with a convincing 25-13 victory, putting Louisville one set away from the sweep.

Boardman refused to go away.

The Spartans responded with a 25-17 victory in the third set before taking the fourth 25-20 to erase Louisville’s two-set advantage and force a decisive fifth.

Boardman then carried its momentum into the final frame, winning 15-5 to complete the five-set comeback.

JV: Louisville 25-25, Boardman 20-20

The Louisville JV Volleyball Team bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Tallmadge with a straight-set victory over Boardman, winning 25-20, 25-20.
Makayla Tanner and Gianna Pederzolli led the attack with 7 kills apiece. Pederzolli also recorded 6 digs.

Lilly Seaman finished with 7 digs and 3 aces, while Brynn Burick totaled 18 assists and 8 service points.

The JV Leopards improved to 8-2 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards Volleyball Team will next host the Howland Tigers on Thursday, September 17. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow at 7:00 PM from Louisville High School.
