Leopards Break Through After Scoreless First Half
Neither team was able to find the back of the net during a scoreless opening half as the Leopards and Spartans went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.
Louisville finally broke through in the second half. Mason Overcasher set up Papai, who finished the opportunity to give the Leopards a 1-0 advantage.
The Louisville defense protected the one-goal lead as the match moved into its closing minutes before the Leopards added a crucial insurance goal.
Busby Extends Louisville Lead
Cale Lindner helped create Louisville’s second goal, finding Busby for the finish with 6:54 remaining.
Busby put the ball into the back of the net to extend the Leopard advantage to 2-0 and give Louisville some breathing room down the stretch.
That second goal proved important when Boardman answered with a goal of its own later in the half to trim Louisville’s lead to 2-1.
The Spartans were unable to find the equalizer as the Leopards closed out the remaining time to secure the one-goal victory.
Louisville Earns First-Ever AAC Victory
Tuesday’s win was a milestone for the Louisville Boys Soccer program as the Leopards earned their first victory as a member of the All-American Conference.
Louisville joined the AAC for the 2026 season and dropped its inaugural conference match 2-0 at Canfield before bouncing back to defeat Boardman.
The victory was also Louisville’s first conference win in nearly nine years. The Leopards’ previous league victory came in their final game as a member of the Northeastern Buckeye Conference when Louisville defeated host Canton South 7-2 on October 10, 2017.
Louisville competed as an independent from 2018 through 2025 before beginning AAC competition this season.
Leopards Win Second Straight Against Boardman
Louisville has now defeated Boardman in back-to-back meetings and improves to 2-2 against the Spartans all-time.
The programs first met in 2004 and 2005, with Boardman winning both contests. Louisville earned its first victory in the series with a 2-0 shutout of the Spartans in a Division I Austintown Sectional Semifinal on October 19, 2016.
Tuesday marked the first regular-season meeting between the programs in 21 years and Louisville’s first regular-season victory against Boardman.
The Leopards and Spartans have each scored nine goals across their four all-time meetings, while Louisville is now 2-1 against Boardman at home.
