Rodriguez Gives Louisville Early Edge
Louisville wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, striking in the sixth minute. Gianna Kruse crossed a pass from the left corner into the goal box to set up the scoring opportunity. Ava Waggoner got a touch on the ball in the box and redirected it to Ruby Rodriguez, who put it into the back of the net to give the Lady Leopards a 1-0 lead with 34:51 remaining in the first half.
The goal was the freshman’s first at the varsity level and marked Louisville’s first goal scored in a season opener since 2020.
Edgein & Defense Preserve Shutout
Louisville’s back line made the early goal stand for the remaining 74-plus minutes to preserve the shutout. Goalkeeper Tristyn Edgein recorded four saves in net, while senior Haile Folk and freshman Sophia Malave also turned in notable defensive efforts to help keep the Bucks off the scoreboard.
The clean sheet marked Louisville’s 34th shutout under head coach Dale Mitchell as he begins the fifth year of his tenure. In comparison, Louisville recorded 56 shutouts under eight different head coaches during the first 19 years of the program’s history.
Leopards Flip the Script on Bucks
Medina Buckeye had shut out Louisville in each of the teams’ three previous meetings, outscoring the Lady Leopards 11-0 in those contests. Louisville flipped the script Saturday night, recording a shutout of its own to earn its first victory over the Bucks.
The win improves Louisville to 1-3 all-time against Medina Buckeye.
