Semifinal: #3 Louisville 49, #6 North Canton Hoover 19
Louisville had to weather an early storm in the semifinal, spotting Hoover a 10-0 lead before flipping the dual on its head with a staggering 37 unanswered points.
The Leopards’ surge began at 120, where Xavier Pollard, ranked 11th statewide in one of Division I’s deepest weights, delivered a 16-0 technical fall over Noah Kloster to stop the bleeding. From there, Louisville seized complete control. Colton Rhoads (No. 11 at 126) followed with a 20-8 major decision, and Liam Montgomery (No. 7 at 132) defeated Ethan Kling 8-2 to push Louisville ahead 12-10.
Momentum snowballed quickly. Kaiden Barker (No. 6 at 138) and Aric Criss (No. 15 at 144) both added technical falls, stretching the lead to double digits. Mikhail Montgomery kept the run alive with a 4-0 decision at 150 before the Leopards turned the match into a rout.
Louisville’s bonus-point barrage peaked with back-to-back pins. Lucas Neff (157) needed just 1:04 to stick Leonidas Paxos, and Brayden Elsass followed with a 1:23 fall at 165 to cap the 37-point run and put the dual completely out of reach. Pins from Micah Bricker (No. 15 in 190, 1:15) and Jakeb Beard (No. 15 in 215, 0:51) further padded the score before Hoover grabbed late points at heavyweight, resulting in a convincing 49-19 Louisville victory.
Final: #2 Brecksville 51, #3 Louisville 27
The regional final opened with Louisville trading blows with one of the state’s top dual teams. Freshman Emilio Rodriguez, ranked 14th at 106, set the tone by pinning Sean Dougherty in 1:10, and Pollard followed with a 12-3 major decision at 120 to give Louisville an early 10-6 edge.
After a narrow 4-3 loss by Rhoads at 126 and a Brecksville win by forfeit at 132, Barker once again delivered bonus points, tech-falling Andrew Falcone 16-1 to pull the dual even at 15-15. A few bouts later, Mikhail Montgomery electrified the Louisville corner with a 3:57 pin at 150, tying the match again at 21-21 and keeping the Leopards firmly in the fight.
That’s where the Bees took control. Brecksville rattled off four consecutive pins from 144 through 175, turning a deadlock into a commanding advantage. Despite a response from Micah Bricker, who pinned Chris Soeder in 1:42 at 190, Brecksville closed strong with pins at 215 and 285 to pull away for a 51-27 win.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to take on the Beaver Local Beavers on Friday, February 13 in their final dual match. This is a rescheduled dual that was postponed earlier this year.
