Leopards Break the Reins Early in 52-34 Win Over Mustangs – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team galloped out to an early lead en rout to a convincing 52-34 victory over the visiting Tuslaw Mustangs. With their second straight victory, Louisville improves to 3-5 on the season.

Baker Pours In Game-High 17 to Lead Leopards
Maggie Baker made 3 three-pointers in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 17 points to lead Louisville. Baker dominated in all aspects of the game in recording 8 steals, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and a block.
The Lady Leopards held the Mustangs scoreless for the first 3:21 of the contest as they built an 8-0 advantage from the opening tip. Another 6-0 run put Louisville ahead 14-3 early in the second quarter and they never looked back taking a 23-10 lead into the half. Baker’s third three-ball of the third quarter put the Lady Leopards ahead 42-16, their largest lead of the game. LHS led 44-19 at the end of the third, before Tuslaw outscored Louisville 15-8 in the final stanza to trim the final margin to under 20 points.
Tillett Scores Double Figures with 12
Ella Tillett joined Baker in posting her fifth straight double-digit game. Tillett scored 8 of her 12 points in the same third quarter that saw the Leopards widen the margin to the largest of the game. She would also account for a game-high 5 blocks on defense and 2 rebounds.
Ten Different Louisville Players Score
Ten different Louisville players scored in the contest, with several recording their first varsity points. Freshman Ava Seitz hit back-to-back buckets in the second quarter to finish with 5. Her three-pointer was the first field goal of her varsity career.
Freshman Kylin Thorn also scored her first varsity points on a basket in the third quarter. Junior Natalia Tonnous hit a jumper to send the crowd into a frenzy in the fourth. Fellow junior Taryn Germany also grabbed 3 fourth-quarter rebounds and split a pair of free throws for her first varsity points.
Mikayla Salmons scored 5 points as part of a well-rounded stat line of 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Kloey Rukavina added 4 points to go along with a game-high 7 rebounds. The Lady Leopards out-rebounded Lady Mustangs 35-31 for the contest.
Mabel Kiko and Lilly Seaman each added 2 points to round out the Louisville scoring. Kiko finished with a team-leading 5 assists to go along with 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and a swat. Seaman added 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Makenna Haugen didn’t make it onto the scoresheet, but was effective nonetheless in securing 3 rebounds, a steal, and adding a block.
Price Leads Tuslaw with Team-High 10
Jerzie Price hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with a team-high 10 points to lead Tuslaw. She also led the defense with a team-best 5 steals to go along with 3 rebounds.
Abby Leedy scored 6 points and tallied a team-leading 4 assists. Kailey Valentine scored all 5 of her points in the fourth quarter and registered 4 rebounds. Karleigh Tully made a three-pointer while adding 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Kailyn Beichler and Olivia Fahrni added a basket each in the second half to round out the Mustang scoring.
Emily McKenzie led Tuslaw on the boards with 5 rebounds. The Lady Mustangs fall to 1-6 on the year with the loss.
Louisville Vs. Tuslaw Girls Basketball Series
Louisville is now 2-1 against Tuslaw all-time, which includes a 2-0 record when playing at home in the series. The Lady Leopards defeated the Mustangs 40-32 at LHS in 2019 a year after falling at Tuslaw 47-42, in their inaugural meeting.
