Leopards Lose Opening Round Heartbreaker to Irish with 0.3 Left in OT – Boys Lacrosse

The #17 seed Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss to the #15 seed St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish in the opening round of the OHSAA Division II, Region 6 Tournament Monday night at Holy Name High School. With the loss, Louisville finishes the season with a final record of 4-11. St. Vincent-St. Mary improves to 6-10 and advances to the second round.

LaScola Scores Twice to Put Leopards in Front
Senior Adler LaScola led the Leopards with two goals and an assist. He opened the scoring with a goal at the 9:28 mark of the first quarter and later scored again in the third to give Louisville a 3-2 lead.
LaScola also assisted on Seth Colley’s fourth-quarter goal that put the Leopards up 4-2 in the opening minute of the final period.
Huber Rallies Irish with Two Fourth Quarter Goals
After falling behind 4-2 early in the fourth, the Fighting Irish mounted a comeback behind back-to-back goals from Evan Huber to tie the game. Huber scored off assists from Evan Kee and Johnny McCarron to knot the contest at 4-4 with 6:19 remaining in regulation.
Kee and McCarron also scored first-half goals via assists from Jackson Chapin and JP Metzler respectively.
Rothkopf Scores Game-Winner with 0.3 Left in OT
Leopard goalkeeper Austin Schaefer turned away multiple late chances in the final seconds of regulation to send the contest to overtime.
The game remained deadlocked through overtime until the final second, when Jude Rothkopf found the back of the net with just 0.3 seconds showing on the clock. Rothkopf’s game-winning goal came off a feed from Metzler and sent the Fighting Irish into the second round in walk-off fashion.
Balderson and Colley Add Goals for Louisville
Senior Blake Balderson scored in the second quarter off an assist from Darcel Williams to briefly give Louisville a 2-1 edge. Senior Seth Colley added a goal in the fourth quarter that stretched the Leopards’ lead to 4-2 before the Irish comeback.
Leopards Vs. Fighting Irish Boys Lacrosse Series
Louisville has now dropped two of its last three meetings with St. Vincent-St. Mary. The Leopards defeated the Fighting Irish 8-4 at home earlier this season.
Louisville still holds a 6-4 edge in the series overall, but is just 1-3 when playing at Green Street Stadium.
Louisville is now 1-1 against St. Vincent-St. Mary in the postseason. The Leopards defeated the Fighting Irish 13-9 at Bob Commings Field in the second round of the 2022 Division II, Region 6 playoffs.

Louisville Boys Lacrosse Tournament History
Louisville is now 9-10 in the postseason all-time, including a 3-8 record when playing on the road.
The Leopards are now 1-1 in overtime tournament games with their only other overtime postseason matchup coming in a 4-3 win over Canfield in 2023.
