Lady Leopards Storm Out of the Gate In 64-36 Win Over Griffins – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team upended the visiting Akron Buchtel Griffins 64-36 Thursday Evening at Louisville High School. The victory snaps the Lady Leopards 3-game skid as they improve to 4-6 on the season.

Barwick Scores Game High 20 to Lead Louisville
Courtney Barwick scored all of her game high 20 points through the first three quarters of actions as Louisville built a 63-26 lead heading into the final quarter of action. Barwick was one of Lady Leopards to hit a pair of three-pointers in the contest.
Maggie Baker, Ezela Manko, and Karis Miglich were the others as Louisville hit 8 of their 23 field goals from beyond the arc. Baker scored 13 and Manko also finished in double figures with 10. Ella Tillett also added 9 and Miglich ended the evening with 7. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Leopards were Mabel Kiko with 4 and Gianna Kruse who scored the lone fourth quarter point for LHS.
Louisville stormed out of the gate to a 24-4 advantage at the end of the first and pulled ahead 44-15 by halftime. The Lady Leopards cruised to victory after that.
Jones and Clark Hit Double Figures for Buchtel
Shaylah Jones was the only Griffin to score in every quarter and finished with a team high 12.
Myah Clark also scored 11 and Phoneix Hafford added 8. Both Clark and Hafford made a pair of three-pointers as Buchtel hit 5 shots from deep as a team. Samyia Samuel also made a three and Taylor Beard got on the board with a field inside the arc.
Buchtel outscored Louisville 21-20 in the second half, including 10-1 in the final stanza as the Leopards cleared the bench. The Griffins remain winless at 0-8 with the defeat.
Leopards Vs. Griffins Girls Basketball Series
Louisville is now 2-1 against Akron Buchtel all-time with this being the first time either team has hosted a game in the series. The Lady Leopards bested the Lady Griffins 58-51 in their previous meeting in 2018 at the Bulldog Battle II played at Canton Memorial Fieldhouse.
Akron Buchtel’s lone victory over Louisville came in the 1997 sectional tournament at Lake, a 61-45 Griffin victory.
