The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Western Reserve Academy Pioneers 57-43 Wednesday Night at Louisville High School. This is the fourth time Louisville has bounced back from a loss with a win in their next contest this season. As a result, the Lady Leopards are now 11-4 for the campaign.
Barwick Scores Team High 14 To Lead Louisville
Freshman Courtney Barwick scored half of her team high 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead Louisville. Sophomore Brooke Haren was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free thrown line and finished in double figures with 12. Senior Kelsey Adelman also added 9 and Aubrey Thorne hit a pair of three-pointers en rout to finishing with 8.
Leopards Overcome Early 8-0 Deficit
The Lady Leopards faced an 8-0 deficit from the onset before senior Kendal Loy scored off a bounce pass from Adelman to get LHS on the board. The Pioneers would answer back on the other end to extend their lead to 10-2, but Adelman sliced the deficit in half with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession. This sparked a 10-1 Louisville run to close the quarter and the Leopards found themselves ahead 12-11 as the first period buzzer sounded.
Louisville carried their momentum into the second stanza that started off with Thorne burying a three-pointer from the top of the arch. Western Reserve Academy rallied back to knot the score at 15-15 before Thorne cashed in on another three-ball from the left wing to put LHS back in front.
Louisville Takes command with 11-0 Run
The Pioneers shrunk their disadvantage to 20-19 before the Leopards ripped off an 11-0 run to pull ahead 31-19 in the final minute of the first half. Another three-ball via Barwick and 6 points in the quarter by Haren helped propel the Louisville run.
The Leopards took a double digit 31-21 lead into the half and remained in command the rest of the way. Western Reserve Academy got within 35-31 before Louisville responded with a 6-0 run to up their advantage back to double figures.
LHS led 43-33 at the end of three and extended their lead to as many as 14 in the final minutes. The Leopards canned 8 of 11 free throw attempts in the final quarter to seal the game.
Myers Leads Pioneers With Game High 17
The Pioneers were led by junior Arianna Myers who scored a game high 17 points. Senior Laila Archer also finished with 8 and freshman Maya Nahar added 7 for Western Reserve Academy.
The Leopards are now 2-0 against the Pioneers all-time. Louisville won at Western Reserve Academy 68-38 last season.
