Wharmby Earns 1st Career Shutout, Louisville Blanks Minerva

Kirsten Wharmby pitched her first career complete game shutout and struck out 9 to lead Louisville past visiting Minerva 6-0 Thursday. With the victory, Louisville is now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in NBC play.
With three starters out of the starting lineup and the wind blowing in, the Lady Leopards effectively 
used their small ball abilities to take down the Lions. Katie Cozy and Grace Jackson each had a pair of hits in the contest to lead Louisville. The Leopards broke the ice when Cozy singled home Jackson in the opening inning.
Louisville later scored 5 runs in the third inning to blow the game open. With the bases loaded and no outs, Annie Woolf’s bunt single scored Jackson from third. Next, Emily Cantley drew a bases loaded walk to score Casey Corrigan and then both Cozy & Woolf came home via wild pitches. The final run of the game was then scored by Cantley who was driven in by Kylie Zifer’s sacrifice bunt.
Wharmby struck out the side in both the first and fourth innings and allowed just 4 Minerva hits for the game. The Leopards committed just one error in the field during the shutout.
With the victory, Louisville has now won 11 in a row against Minerva and leads the all-time series 35-10 overall. The Lady Leopards have now won their last 41 NBC games overall which includes their last 21 at home.
