Leopards Dominate Ex-NBC Foes in Opener – Wrestling

Carter Mickley 100th Career Win Louisville Leopards Wrestling Vs. West Branch Warriors

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Wrestling Team opened up the season Thursday in a tri-match at Northwest High School against two former NBC foes. The Leopards defeated the West Branch Warriors 68-10 and shutout the host Northwest Indians 80-0.


Louisville 68, West Branch 10

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdLouisville won 12 of their 14 matchups in a convincing 68-10 victory over West Branch to begin the season. 

Eight different Leopards pinned the opposition including Freshman Dominic Hoffarth who won by fall in the 113 match in just 27 seconds. Sophomore Noah Peterson won by pin in only 30 seconds in the 182 match as well.

Seniors Logan Vanicek (152) and Brent Paulus (220) also won by fall in under a minute. Fellow Senior Jax Leonard (170) won by pin in the third period and Carter Mickley (145) won by fall to claim his 100th career victory. Juniors Dan Adams (120) and Garett Lautzenheiser (126) also earned back-to-back pins for Louisville.

Other notable Leopards victories included: Freshman Dylan Rhoads taking the lightweight 106 match by technical fall 16-1 and Sophomore Cameron Brazek earning an 8-1 decision in the heavyweight 285 matchup. Junior Davin Rhoads and Sophomore Brenden Severs also won via forfeit for LHS.

West Branch was led by Kenny Mara who won by fall in the 195 match. Joe Coffman was the Warriors only other winner by 11-2 major decision in the 138 match.

With the victory, Louisville has now won 6 straight dual meets against West Branch dating back to the 2015-16 season.

Louisville 80, Northwest 0

The Leopards matched their largest win in team history with an 80-0 shutout of host Northwest. 

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdLouisville won every match with 9 victories coming by fall. Senior Jax Leonard (182) earned the quickest win by pin in just 16 seconds. Senior Brent Paulus (220) needed only 27 seconds while Freshman Dominic Hoffarth (113) also won by fall in only 28 seconds of action. Garett Lautzenheiser (126), Davin Rhoads (138), Logan Vanicek (160), and Cameron Brazek (285) won by pin in the first period. Carter Mickley (145) and Brenden Severs (152) also earned victories by fall during the third period of their matches.

Other Leopard winners included Dan Adams (120) by 18-3 technical fall and Noah Peterson (195) by 8-3 decision. Dylan Rhoads (106), Dale Stauffer (132), and Austin Stauffer (170) also won by forfeit for LHS.

Louisville also defeated the crosstown St. Thomas Aquinas Knights 80-0 on December 13, 2008 and more recently produced an 80-0 shutout victory over the Lakeside Dragons last season on December 4, 2018. Northwest was present during that Lakeside win last year as LHS hosted both schools. This is the eighth known shutout in team history.
