Louisville Falls in Pitchers’ Duel Against Warren Champion 2-1 – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team resumed their suspended game with the Warren Champion Flashes Friday Evening. Warren Champion held a 2-1 lead when the game was suspended at the end of the third inning back on March 30 due to weather. That result remained throughout as the two teams played four more scoreless innings to give the Flashes a 2-1 victory in what was a tournament like atmosphere at the Diamond of Dreams. With the loss, Louisville drops to 18-4 on the year.
The Leopards struck first in the opening inning back on March 30. After the first two Louisville batters were retired, Kaycee Ollis ripped a line drive double to right field. She eventually came home via a wild pitch to make it 1-0 LHS.
The Flashes answered back in the following frame. Emma Gumont hit a 2-out, 2-run homer over the fence in left that put Warren Champion in front 2-1 in the top of the second inning.
Neither team would score again as both pitchers mowed down the opposition. Sarah Cantley pitched all 7 innings for Louisville, gave up 2 runs on 10 hits, and struck out 9. She was only bested by Allison Smith who also hurled a complete game, gave up 1 run on 2 hits, and struck out a 16. Lauren Bennett had the only other hit for the Lady Leopards against Smith.
This was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Softball Team will next continue competition at the South Range Tournament on Saturday, May 4. They will face the Jefferson Area Falcons at 12:30 PM and the Indian Creek Redskins at 4:00 PM.
