Volleyball Wins Battle With Generals to Claim Sectional Crown

Louisville Leopards Volleyball 2014 DI Sectional Champions

Louisville 25-25-24-25, Wooster 19-22-26-22

The #3 seeded Louisville Lady Leopards Volleyball team defeated the #6 seeded Wooster Generals 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-22 in the DI Uniontown Sectional Finals at Lake High School Wednesday Evening. With the victory Louisville is now 17-7.

Rachel Mathie led the Leopards with a team-high 18 digs and was Louisville’s top server with 13 points Beatty's Sports Yellow Long Sleeved Shirtand 1 ace. Other leaders for the Lady Leopards included Brynn Guist with 14 kills, Haley Shadle with 45 assists, and Emily Hollifield with 4 blocks.

Louisville took care of business in the first set, but rallied from behind in the second set. The Generals used their own run to build a 22-21 advantage, but the Leopards swept the final four point to take the set 25-22 and a 2-0 game lead.

Louisville was hammering the nails in Wooster’s coffin in the third set building a 24-20 lead. The Leopards student section came out in full force again and chanted “This One’s Over!” and “Start the Buses!” However, out of a timeout Murphy’s Law took effect and the Generals unfathomably scored the next 6 points to stun the Lady Leopards 26-24.

Louisville regrouped in the fourth set and cleaned up Wooster 25-22 to win the match. With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now won a DI Sectional Championship in 4 of the past 5 seasons. They will take on #2 Seeded GlenOak Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the District Semifinals. The Golden Eagles defeated Marietta in the game before 25-13, 25-13, 25-16.
