Burton Scores Twice to Lead Leopards
Louisville struck first in the ninth minute of the match. After an unforced error by Tallmadge sent the ball out of bounds deep in their own end, Maddox Mayle launched a perfectly placed throw-in over two defenders into the right side of the penalty box. Carter Burton kicked the ball off a bounce and laced a shot into the left side of the net to give the Leopards an early 1-0 lead with 31:21 remaining in the first half.
Just over a minute into the second half, the Leopards doubled their lead. A midfield steal by the Louisville defense quickly turned into a breakaway. Mayle possessed the ball down the right side and delivered a cross to the middle of the box, where Burton one-timed it into the top of the net with 38:58 on the clock, extending the lead to 2-0.
Mayle Delivers Third Assist in Sanders’ Goal
Later in the half, Mayle threaded a precise left-footed pass into the center of the Tallmadge defense. Brandon Sanders settled the ball in stride, slipped between three defenders, and fired a hard shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and into the net—giving Louisville a commanding 3-0 lead with 9:18 to play.
Neither team scored the rest of the way. Leopard goalkeeper Justin Keister recorded his second shutout of the season between the posts to preserve the clean sheet.
