Softball’s 58-Game NBC Winning Streak Blown Away By Dukes
Marlington 17, Louisville 3, 5 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball was stunned by the visiting Marlington Dukes 17-3 in 5 Innings on a whacky & windy Tuesday Evening at LHS. The loss marks the first time Louisville has fallen in a
conference game since 2011, snapping a streak of 58 straight NBC wins. With the loss, the Lady Leopards are now 7-6 overall and 6-1 at the halfway point of league play.
Louisville was led by Kylie Zifer who batted 2-for-3 at the plate with a double & 2 runs scored. Emily Cantley also delivered a 2-run double and Grace Jackson cracked an RBI double.
The Dukes pounded out 15 hits to score their 17 runs. Olivia Powers batted 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Alyssa Powers batted 3-for-4 with 4 runs scored to lead Marlington. Erica Robinson also had 3 hits and Mariah Carver also drove in 3 runs.
The loss is the Lady Leopards first in NBC play since they fell to the visiting Carrollton Warriors on April 13, 2011 (a span of 1,469 calendar days). Louisville had defeated Marlington in their past 10 meetings and amazingly had shutout the Dukes 81-0 over their past 6 games before surrendering 17 runs Tuesday. The Leopards now trail the all-time series 27-28 which includes a 15-13 record at home.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Wadsworth to take on the Grizzlies on Wednesday, April 22 at 5:00 PM.
