Softball Wins See-Saw Opener Against West Branch

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball team won a back-and-forth battle with the visiting West Branch Warriors 7-6 Tuesday Evening in the season opener.
Morgan Harris singled to right field in the bottom of the sixth, and after a West Branch error, Lexi Givens scored the go-ahead run on the play. An inning before, Grace Jackson’s high fly ball carried over the center field fence for a 2-run game-tying home run making it 6-6. Jackson would finish 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead Louisville.
The Leopards jumped on the Warriors early with four runs in the bottom of the first. Jackson doubled home Peyton McKeever, Katie Cozy singled home Jackson, Emily Cantley pounded an RBI triple, and Rylie Squire provided an RBI single.
West Branch followed that with six unanswered runs, but only three of them were earned. Sarah Weber drove in three runs and Maddie Pidgeon had 2 hits to lead the Warriors. Louisville would rally back after that and Harris would shutdown West Branch during the final three innings to earn the win in the circle.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now defeated the Lady Warriors in 22 consecutive meetings dating back to 2004. Louisville now leads the all-time series 42-15 and the Lady Leps have now won 53 straight NBC games.
