Softball Breaks Deadlock in 6th to Win at Marlington

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team edged out a 3-1 victory against the host Marlington Dukes Friday Evening at MHS. With the victory, Louisville improves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the NBC.
Morgan Harris (3-1) pitched a complete game, gave up no earned runs on 7 hits, and struck out 8 to lead the Lady Leopards. Harris found herself in a pitcher’s duel with Dukes pitcher Ellie Smith. The game remained scoreless through the first five innings.
Louisville came through with 3 runs in the top of the sixth to take command of the contest. The rally started when Grace Jackson singled to left field and then stole second base. Lexi Zavarelle walked in the next at-bat and Jackson took third on a wild pitch. Savannah Miner bunted to the pitcher on the next pitch, Jackson scored the go-ahead run from third, and everyone ended up safe.
After a double play, Aliyah English singled in Zavarelle to give the Leopards a 2-run cushion.Then, Leandra Givens padded that lead further with an RBI single to center scoring English.
Louisville found themselves in a jam in the bottom of the sixth as Marlington put runners on the corners with just 1 out. Harris struck out the following batter on 4 pitches and got the next hitter to groundout.
The Dukes broke the shutout in the seventh inning when Alyssa Powers singled home Maddie Meyers. But Harris fanned the final Marlington batter to seal the victory.
Teagan Rice also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. The Leopards had 9 hits in the game with English and Jackson each singling twice.
With the victory, the Leopards have now taken 12 out of their last 13 meetings against the Dukes and take the lead in the all-time series 29-28. The series is now tied 14-14 all-time at Marlington with Louisville winning the last 7 meetings at MHS.
