Softball Battles Past Warriors 4-2
Louisville 4, Carrollton 2
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team battled to a 4-2 win over the host Carrollton Warriors Thursday Evening. With their 11th straight victory, Louisville improves to 18-6 overall and 11-1 in the NBC.
The Warriors tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Leopards immediately responded by snatching the lead back in the top of the fifth. Kylie Zifer led off the frame with a Triple and then came home via Grace Jackson’s fly out to put Louisville ahead 3-2.
Pitchers Kirsten Wharmby and Morgan Harris combined to shutout Carrollton in the final three innings to clinch the win for the Leopards. Wharmby started the first five innings and earned the win to improve to 9-3 on the year. Harris closed out the final two innings and struck out 5 to pick up the save.
Zifer and Katie Cozy each finished with 2 hits to lead Louisville offensively. Zifer scored on a wild pitch and Cozy singled in Jackson to give the Leopards the early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Cozy later scored an insurance run in the seventh inning via Emily Cantley’s bunt single.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now defeated the Lady Warriors in 15 of their past 16 meetings including the last 8 at Carrollton. Louisville now leads the all-time series 37-17 with a 16-10 road record against the Warriors.
