Schooley, Gramoy Dominate Warriors in 64-46 Stomping

Louisville 64, West Branch 46

The Louisville Leopards boys basketball team crushed the West Branch Warriors 64-46 at West Branch Fieldhouse Friday Night.  Michael Schooley led the Leopards with 20 points, while Owen Gramoy added 5 three-pointers for a stellar 19 points.

West Branch and Louisville played even in the first quarter.  Chad Apple scored the first 7 points for the Warriors, before Austen Rekolt buried home  a three-pointer for West Branch as well.  Apple finished with 9 points on the night and Rekolt would also add 8.  However, Louisville got big buckets from Schooley and Toby Minster, while Gramoy put on his usual three-point effort by canning 2 three-pointers to keep the game tied at 16-16 after one.

Schooley and Gramoy erupted in the second quarter, as each scored 8 points a piece.  Louisville started the period on a 10-2 run, which included a circus layin from Gramoy and a steal and score by Mitch Sluss.  The Warriors cut the deficit to 28-22 before Gramoy swished home 2 NBA range three-pointers in helping Louisville to a 36-26 double digit lead at the break.

Just like in the second quarter, the Leopards opened up the third quarter on a 10-2 run.  Sluss and Billy Lairson both scored on fast breaks, while Schooley and Minster continued to pound inside.  Minster finished the contest with 10 points, and Sluss scored 7 of his 9 total points in the third quarter to help Louisville extend its advantage to 53-34 heading into the final period.

The Leps cruised through the fourth quarter in route to the victory.  Gramoy hit his fifth triple of the game and the starters were pulled at the 2:13 mark.  The NBC losing streak is over, Louisville takes it by 18.

NBC Update: Carrollton beat Northwest 48-43 to move to 15-0 and 10-0 in the Conference.  The win gives Carrollton at least a share of the NBC.  The only way the Leps could tie them is if Louisville wins out and Carrollton loses out, an unlikely scenario.

JV REPORT:

Louisville 51, West Branch 46

The Louisville Boys JV squad avenged their only loss of the year with a 51-46 victory over West Branch Friday Night.  The Leopards came out hot, hitting 5 three-pointers in the first quarter.  Trevor Hostetler hit two, Jeremy McQuilkin and Trent Ohman also added one each, and Ronnie Carter added a buzzer beater from the corner to put the Leps up 20-14 at the end of the first quarter.   Jake O’brien didn’t want to miss out on the three-point clinic, so he canned 2 triples in a second quarter in which he scored 8 of his total 10 points.  The Leopards ripped open the game in the period by outscoring the Warriors 14-1.  West Branch made things interesting by outscoring the Leopards 14-4 in the third quarter.  Beau Taylor led all scorers with 16 and Jake Griffith added 14 for the Warriors as well.  However, Louisville hung on for the 51-46 victory.  Lost in the Leopard storm of three-pointers was Trevor Meredith, who led all Louisville scorers with 11.
