Louisville Drops Home Opener Against Salem 48-36 – Girls Basketball
Salem 48, Louisville 36
The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Salem Quakers 48-36 in their home opener Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville slips to 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
Ellie Jackson poured in a team-high 16 points and registered 9 steals to lead the Lady Leopards. Kayla Gibson cracked double digits with 11 points to go along with 3 steals for Louisville as well. Erin Hahn also scored 4 points and Hanna Lautzenheiser was Louisville’s leading rebounder with 5 boards.
Salem took a double digit advantage in leading 17-7 after one quarter. The Lady Quakers outscored the Leopards 14-2 in the second period to take a commanding 31-9 halftime lead. Louisville dominated the third quarter 17-7 to shrink the Salem advantage to 12, but that deficit remained in the end as the two teams played even throughout the final period.
The Quakers (5-1, 3-0) were led by Allee Davidson-Chuck who scored a game-high 18 points to go along with 3 assists. Kyla Jamison also finished with double figures in scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 boards. Casey Johnson and Echo Mayer-Kutz both tallied 6 points. Mayer-Kutz also recorded a game-high 9 rebounds as Salem held a 30-19 advantage on the boards.
The loss snaps the Leopards 4-game winning streak over the Quakers head-to-head. Louisville still leads the all-time series 14-7 overall with an 8-3 mark at home. This is the first time Salem has won at LHS since they defeated the Lady Leopards 47-30 back on December 28, 1983. This is only the Quakers second win over Louisville since joining the NBC in 2011 and also their second win in their past 15 matchups with the Leopards overall.
